After losing a pot the hand before, the next hand was also an unwelcome turn of events for Yixuan Macko.
The hand began when Di Wu raised to 2,000 and was called by Marc Tiberia in the next seat over. Yixuan Macko chose to jam her final 13,500 and was called by Wu. Tiberia gave it some consideration before he made the fold.
Yixuan Macko: 9♣9♥
Di Wu: Q♦J♥
Macko was ahead, but the flop brought bad news as it came 2♥8♥J♣ to give Wu top pair.
The 6♥ turn gave both players a flush draw, and the Q♥ river improved both players to a flush, but Wu had the best of it as he eliminated Macko.
Druce Gammon opened the hand with a raise to 2,500 from early position. Jonathan Fagin wanted to play for more and chose to re-raise to 8,500 on the button. Gammon made the call and sent them to a flop.
Both players checked the 9♦J♦3♠ flop, which brought the 7♣ turn. Gammon checked again, but this time Fagin chose to bet 2,700. Gammon called.
The 3♣ river did not slow down Fagin, who bet 6,500 after it was checked to him. Gammon made the call after some consideration.
Fagin showed J♥J♣ for a full house as Gammon pitched his cards into the muck.
Prakhar Jain and Smriti Dewari may not be the first married couple in poker that comes to mind, but their personal journey in poker has made them a familiar face in the San Diego poker scene at Jamul Casino.
Dewari shared that she was the first of the duo to immerse herself in the poker scene after immigrating here from India in 2020. Dewari shared that she had experience playing cash games in casinos, but it wasn’t until she went on a trip to Sydney, Australia, after immigrating to San Diego, that her love for poker took on a new form.
“When I came back from Sydney, we were both hooked,” Dewari said.
Dewari and Jain began to play poker more often, leading to them beginning to play the tournament scene in earnest in May of 2024.
Jain shared that he used to love to play and watch cricket in his home country of India. Poker felt like a natural transition for him due to what he feels is an overlap in strategic thinking skillset.
Due to his competitive background, Jain shared that it is the sport competition that draws him to the game of poker and tournaments specifically.

His wife, Smriti, has similar motivations.
“It feels good to be right,” Dewari said in jest when asked what keeps her coming back to poker.
Smiriti, when asked if she and her husband, Parkhar, even play against each other, stated that in tournaments so far, it hasn’t happened too often, but that they do play at home against one another from time to time.
Naturally, Smiriti was asked who gets the best of the duels, to which she replied, “I get lucky against him, but he has a good read on me.”
Bryan Obeso began the action with a raise to 1,500 from early position. Lewis Christenson called in the next seat over. Douglas Jones called on the button, and the small blind also called to create a four-handed pot.
It checked to Jones on the button after the K♦Q♦2♣ flop, and he responded with a bet of 2,000. Everyone folded except for Christenson, who made the call.
The 2♦ turn led to another check from Christenson, and Jones reacted with a bet of 3,500. Christenson folded to yield the pot to Jones.
