Day 1a of the $2,700 Mission Run Good Million Dollar Main Event is now in the books after ten levels of play at the Thunder Valley Casino and Resort. The first day of action attracted a total of 146 entries to give it their shot at securing a bag for Day 2 at the Run Good Poker Series (RGPS). Entries continued throughout the day, but when the final level of play ended, a total of 44 players remained to move on to Day 2.

The top three chip counts after players bagged for the day were Sanjeev Sisodiya (323,00), Abhishek Singh (281,000), and Paul Vang (261,500).

Sisodiya was one of the more formidable stacks in the room with a couple of hours to go as he was fifth on the top ten count heading into he last two levels, but he took off following that, finishing with the most chips of any player in the room. Sisodiya is looking for his first RGPS title as he will enter Day 2 with plenty of chips to work with.

Singh was also hovering near the top of the leaderboards, but made his splash late. He gained even more momentum late in the day as he doubled his stack in the final two levels to bag a healthy start for Day 2. Singh is also searching for his first RGPS title.

Vang also had a smooth sailing as he registered a top stack throughout the majority of Day 2. Vang stuck the landing to finish with a top-three stack. Vang live registered cashes in RGPS according to The Hendon Mob, meaning he will look to accomplish that and beyond on Day 2.

Tyler Patterson
Tyler Patterson

Notable Tyler Patterson finished with a guaranteed spot on Day 2. Patterson won this very event in 2023 when he outlasted a field of 477 entrants to secure his RGPS ring. Patterson will enter day 2 with a stack of 72,000. Sasha Sabbaghian, fresh off his win in the $600 Hendon Mob Mid-Major Championship earlier this week, also qualified for Day 2, bagging 86,000 to finish the day. Two-time RGPS champion Ian Steinman also finished the day with a stack of 82,500.

The main event will host an additional starting flight on Saturday, August 2. Day 1b is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. local time. Players will begin with 40,000 chips, and the blinds will begin at the 100/200 level with 60-minute blind levels. There are 15-minute breaks scheduled after every two levels, with a 75-minute dinner break penciled in after level six.

Players are entitled to unlimited re-entries in the main event, with registration closing at the beginning of level nine. Players may forfeit their chips at the end of level eight and re-buy to begin with a fresh stack.

Malcolm Scores the Double

Level 10 : Blinds 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante

James Malcolm opened the hand with a raise to 4,000 from early position, which led to a call by Tyler Patterson in the hijack and Victor Paredes on the button.

Joseph Schmidt woke up with a hand in the small blind and raised it to 23,000. Malcolm responded with a jam for 38,500. Patterson and Paredes folded, but Schmidt called to put Malcolm at risk.

James Malcolm: QQAll in
Joseph Schmidt: AK

It was a classic race between the pair versus the overcards. Malcolm faded any scare cards on the flop when it fanned out 3210.

The 9 turn did not change anything, and the Q river upgraded Malcolm to a set to win the hand and secure the double up.
