Caleb Overby Bags Overwhelming Chip Lead in Day 1a of SDPC Main Event
The first of four starting flights is in the books in the $600 Main Event here at the San Diego Poker Classic hosted by Jamul Resort Casino. Of the 86 runners who started Day 1a, only 10 players will return for Day 2 on Sunday, all of whom have locked up a min-cash.
Caleb Overby emerged as the runaway chip leader, bagging an impressive 613,000 - almost as much as second and third place combined. Overby was down to less than ten big blinds and then went on a massive heater during the last few levels of play, claiming three consecutive knockouts to end the night. He is no stranger to the SDPC, having taken down Event #7: $300 Six Max NLH at last year's series for a payday of $5,224.
Rounding out the podium is Anthony Stabile in second with 340,000 and Anthony Bland in third with 335,000. They are the only other players to surpass the 300,000 chip mark during Day 1a.

Day 1c will begin August 23 at 11:00 a.m. local time and Day 1d will kick off later in the day at 6:00 p.m. Play for Day 1 flights will conclude once 12.5% of the field (rounded down) remains and those who bag will be in the money. Day 2 will then start at the earliest blind level of the four flights on Sunday, August 24, where the event will play down to a winner.
