Day 1ab Completed
The first of four starting flights is in the books in the $600 Main Event here at the San Diego Poker Classic hosted by Jamul Resort Casino. Of the 86 runners who started Day 1a, only 10 players will return for Day 2 on Sunday, all of whom have locked up a min-cash.
Caleb Overby emerged as the runaway chip leader, bagging an impressive 613,000 - almost as much as second and third place combined. Overby was down to less than ten big blinds and then went on a massive heater during the last few levels of play, claiming three consecutive knockouts to end the night. He is no stranger to the SDPC, having taken down Event #7: $300 Six Max NLH at last year's series for a payday of $5,224.
Rounding out the podium is Anthony Stabile in second with 340,000 and Anthony Bland in third with 335,000. They are the only other players to surpass the 300,000 chip mark during Day 1a.

The remaining ten players all locked up a seat for Day 2 when Zach Kelley was eliminated on the stone bubble at the hands of the red-hot Overby, when his pocket nines were cracked.
Day 1b began at 6:00 p.m. local time, and chip counts will be posted once the flight is completed. There are currently 69 entries in the second of the four flights at the time of writing.
Day 1c will begin August 23 at 11:00 a.m. local time and Day 1d will kick off later in the day at 6:00 p.m. Play for Day 1 flights will conclude once 12.5% of the field (rounded down) remains and those who bag will be in the money. Day 2 will then start at the earliest blind level of the four flights on Sunday, August 24, where the event will play down to a winner.

Caleb Overby raised to 16,000 under the gun and Zach Kelley three-bet jammed for 39,000 in the cutoff. Overby made the call with the covering stack.
Zach Kelley: 9♣9♥
Caleb Overby: K♣8♣
Kelley's pair of nines were still in the lead on the 3♣J♥A♣ flop, but Overby picked up a flush draw. The 7♠ turn was a blank for Kelley but the 2♣ river saw him hit the rail on the stone bubble.

Caleb Overby raised to 12,000 on the button and the player in the big blind called.
The flop came A♦9♣2♣ and the big blind check-called a bet of 9,000 from Overby.
On the 5♦ turn, the big blind checked again and Overby sized up with a bet of 35,000. The big blind called once more.
The river landed the 6♥ and the big blind checked for a third time. Overby quickly moved all in to put the big blind at risk who had about 75,000 behind.
After taking some time to think through his decision, the big blind reluctantly called only to see the bad news when Overby tabled 4♦3♦ for the wheel.
