Tournament officials called for a pause in the action as players returned from break, and they will now begin the next level of play after a brief delay.
Players are on a 15-minute break. Play will resume at the 3,000/6,000 level. A total of 25 players remain on Day 1a, with 15 players entitled to bag and advance to Day 2.
Originally from Richmond, Virginia, local poker player Coltrane Conklin has lived in Austin for five years, but has been playing poker at the local scene for over two years.
Conklin sat down with PokerNews to offer some of his thoughts on the first-ever RunGood Poker Series stop at the Lodge Card Club.
“The buyin to guarantee ratio is very good,” Conklin said. “Great action. Lots of tables open and tournaments are really good.”
Conklin shared that he is pleased to see the poker scene, specifically the tournament poker scene in Austin, continue to grow.
“It’s really cool. I think there was a period in Texas where the grey market made it questionable for these big markets to invest,” Conklin said. “It’s exciting to see the scene here in Texas grow.”
Conklin shared that he used to be more of a cash game player, but with the tournament offerings growing in his local area, he stated that he has begun to play more and more tournaments at this point in his poker career.
Action got going when the cutoff raised to 8,000 before David Leach opted to re-raise to 25,000 on the button. Bruce Nguyen came along from the big blind with a call, and the original raiser opted to fold to create a heads-up pot.
The flop came 2♦10♠9♥, which led to a round of checks.
Nguyen chose to bet 30,000 on the 9♠ turn, which was enough to end the skirmish as Leach folded to yield the pot to Nguyen.

John Armbrust opened to 8,000 from early position before his opponent in the next seat over shipped it for 24,000 total. Armbrust made the call to put his opponent at risk.
Opponent: A♣5♣
John Armbrust: 8♣8♥
Armbrust was in the lead, but the flop gave his opponent something to work with as it came 3♣2♦5♥ to give his opponent a pair and a straight draw to go with his outs to an ace.
The 6♠ turn and the Q♠ river did not convert on any of the scare cards to award Armbrust the pot.

Patrick Salmins was the first to act and raised to 11,000 preflop. He was called in two places by the button and the big blind to create a three-handed flop.
The flop brought fireworks after it came 7♣9♣8♦. The big blind checked before Salmins fired 20,000. The button jammed for 69,500, and the big blind called to put the button at risk. Salmins reshoved for more, and the big blind eventually called the rest of his stack to put himself at risk.
Button: K♠10♠
Big Blind: 10♣3♦
Patrick Salmins: A♣K♣
Salmins had the best of it with ace-high, but a club would shut down any opportunity for his opponents.
The 2♣ was just the card Salmins was looking for as he improved to a flush and sent his opponents packing as the irrelevant 7♦ peeled on the river.

Patrick Salmins is having a hot Day 1a as his stack continues to grow after he scored a knockout.
Salimins was battling against his opponent on the Q♠5♣2♣ flop. Salmins and his opponent got into a series of raises that resulted in Salmins putting his opponent at risk.
Opponent: A♦Q♣
Patrick Salmins: 2♠2♥
His opponent had top pair top kicker, but he was in steep trouble as Salmins had a set of deuces.
The J♣ turn prompted his opponent to get up from his seat and begin leaving the table as the meaningless 9♦ hit the river to award Salmins the pot.
