Day 1a Completed
The final hand of Flight A in the RGPS Horseshoe Council Bluffs has been played and the bags have come out. The unofficial numbers show that 23 players have advanced out of 112 entries. Eric Atchison emerged as the overwhelming chip leader at the start of Level 12 and held onto it through the end of the night.
We didn't manage to catch Atchison in a hand all day, so we asked him how he came to amass such a large stack. Atchison was reticent to divulge any of his strategies but said that there wasn't any single hand that catapulted his stack into the stratosphere. He credits a series of small to moderate pots to take the chip lead.
"I'll tell you one hand, though," he offered, "It's probably my favorite hand from today."
As he told it, he held ![]()

The small blind checked and Atchison bet 1,000. The cutoff called and the small blind folded. The

The river put a third club on the board with the

"I didn't have a club," Atchison clarified. "I checked and he went all-in. I called and he mucked."
Others to bag big stacks were Mark Lafata (180,500), Jonathan Lawson (155,500), Dustin Lindbald (148,500), and Kris Burchfield (144,000), who round out the top five. Joining them were defending champ Nick Burris (129,000), Henry Gingerich (92,000), Travis Speck (73,500), and Dan Hamm (24,000).
Among those to fall on Day 1a were Papa Karn, Ray Henson, Saraf Zeluf, Kevin Berthelsen, Andy Van Blair, Ryan Phan, and Jeff Bryan. All of those players will have the chance to fire again if they so choose.
Day 1b is scheduled to begin at noon local time on Saturday, with Day 1c to follow at 7 p.m. PokerNews will be on site to bring you updates from both flights so be sure to join us then.
The official numbers are in! Out of 112 entries in flight A, 23 players have advanced to Day 2. Eric Atchison fell back from his peak but still held the chip lead when the bags came out. Below are the official chip counts from Day 1a.

As the last level of the night ticks down, here are some updated chip counts. The only major surprise is the sudden rise of Eric Atchison to the top of the charts with an overwhelming lead on the field.

The action folded to Walt Lustgraaf and he shoved all-in for 14,300. Jesse McVicker, on the button, reshoved for around 40,000. Everyone else folded and the hands were turned up.

"Oh I'm gonna give you the stand up treatment," Lustgraaf joked, standing up to the delight of the other players at the table.

"Excuse me, sir," we ask, "Can I get your name?"
"Jim Indiveri," he answers.
"And how do you spell that?"
"I-n-d-i-v-e-r-i. Like, 'In de very beginning.'"
And that, in a nutshell, is Jim Indiveri's sense of humor. An orthodontist with nearly 30 years of practice, Indiveri is a medical professional by day and a poker enthusiast in his spare time.
A regular at RGPS stops from Tulsa to Council Bluffs and everywhere in between, Indiveri's best finish was sixth place in the RGPS Main Event at Downstream Casino in April 2018 for $4,726. He's also a member of the Hinkles' home game, nicknamed Monday Night Poker.
Indiveri's flight A has been a slow grind that has seen his stack basically trend even through five hours of action. Now in Level 11, he found himself with 20,200 in a favorable spot for a shove.
Paul Strohm limped from under-the-gun, the button called and Indiveri moved all-in. The big blind quickly folded. Strohm asked for a count and then went into the tank, but ultimately decided to fold. Darin Miller decided to send his cards into the muck as well to give the pot to Indiveri.
