Kerber Misses Out on Glory But Earns Plenty of SCOOP League Points

Kelvin Kerber
Kelvin Kerber

Kelvin "Kelvin_FP:AR" Kerber narrowly missed out on capturing his ninth SCOOP title when he finished as the runner-up in SCOOP 06-H: $1,050 NLHE 7-Max. Some 206 players parted company with $1,050 and created a $206,000 prize pool that the top 28 finishers shared.

As you'd expect from a high-stakes SCOOP event, the field was stacked with elite-level grinders. Team PokerStars' Alejandro Lococo bowed out in eighth, which popped the final table bubble, and left Kerber only six eliminations away from becoming a nine-time SCOOP champion.

Kerber eventually found himself heads-up against Slovenia's Igor "Garrin4e" Yaroshevskyy for the title and the $46,350 top prize. Kerber has a stellar one-on-one record, but he had to settle for second place and a $32,960 consolation prize this time around. The SCOOP League points Kerber also collected could make all the difference once the festival concludes.

"Practise your victory dance - not because you’ll use it, but because it’s good for morale.

"You have to believe in the magic, even if the poker gods have blocked your number. A good victory dance keeps you loose, keeps the vibes high, and if nothing else, confuses your housemates when you start flossing after winning a small blind. I’ve got three routines locked in.

"I’ve never made it far enough to use the third, but when I do, it involves a confetti cannon and a fog machine."
