Four ways to the A♠5♥2♣ flop, Kabir Mulla was in the tank after Ariel Mazabow had checked, Frank Chilchik bet 6,000 and Ashley Hira called. When he was told it was his turn, Mulla was befuddled for a second and instantly folded. Mazabow called and the trio headed to the A♣ turn.
Mazabow checked again and Chilchik bet 26,000.
"Why such a big bet now?" Hira inquired before taking a few seconds and raising to 55,000. Mazabow pushed all-in and Chilchik called all-in.
"Did I just get fucked after flopping the nuts?" Hira inquired and called.
Frank Chilchik: 2♥2♠
Ariel Mazabow: 5♠5♦
Ashley Hira: 4♦3♥
The two sets had improved to full houses and the wheel of Hira was drawing dead, Chilchik missed the miracle escape on the 9♠ river. Mazabow doubled off Hira for 92,000 and that vaulted him to a big stack.
Nico Wiechers raised to 4,000 and received two callers including Daniel Habib and the button. The 7♦6♥6♣ flop was checked before Wiechers bet the 3♦ turn for 8,000, only the button called. Wiechers bet another 11,000 on the 7♣ river and forced a reluctant fold.
With four times the starting stack, Wiechers appears to be the current chip leader.
On a three-way turn of A♠J♥4♣10♥, Clive Kikia bet 15,000 and was called only by Simon Brown. He then jammed the K♣ on the river and Brown flipped over his A♣Q♣ without saying a word. He had called, though, and Kikia's Q♦J♠ was good enough for the chop.
Chris Luyt and his son Jared entered for the first time after the dinner break while Trevor Rees re-entered. That brought the field up to 107 entries for Day 1a with the cards now officially back in the air.
Level: 7
Blinds: 1,000/1,500
Ante: 1,500
With 79 players out of 102 entries remaining, the Day 1a field has been sent on a scheduled 90-minute dinner break. Another three levels are scheduled for tonight and the late registration will be open all day long. The action is set to recommence at approximately 8.18 p.m. local time.
Alexandre Blanc raised to 2,500 and Ashley Hira three-bet to 5,000 thereafter. Two players called and Blanc made it 22,000 to go, which only Hira called.
On a flop of 8♥5♥3♠, they got it in with Hira as the player at risk for 38,000.
Ashley Hira: A♥2♥
Alexandre Blanc: K♣K♥
The turn was the 2♣ to give Hira a few more outs and he then spiked the A♦ on the river to double.
"Finally I hit one," he vividly exclaimed and added that he had been losing a lot of his chips to Blanc in the half an hour prior.
Heads-up to the 9♣7♥6♦3♣ turn, Navin Lukhai got it in against Rajeev Poonhath in the big blind and then exclaimed "pair the board" before either player had flipped over their cards.
Navin Lukhai: K♥K♠
Rajeev Poonhath: 9♠6♥
The river was the 5♦ and that spelled the end for Lukhai, who added "I actually thought you hit the straight ... okay, no more all-in" before heading out of the tournament area.
