MSPT Heads Back to Iowa's Riverside Casino July 23-25

Level 3 : 100/300, 0 ante
Riverside Casino
Riverside Casino

Season 12 of the Mid-States Poker Tour (MSPT) continues next month with the tour’s second-ever visit to Riverside Casino. PokerNews will be on-site to provide live updates.

For the second time this year, the MSPT is headed to Riverside Casino & Golf Resort in Riverside, Iowa from July 23-25 for the $1,110 buy-in, $200K GTD 2021 Iowa State Poker Championship.

A series of $70 and $260 satellites, which will begin in early July, will feed into the Main Event. That tournament will feature two starting flights starting with Day 1a at 3 p.m. local time on Friday, July 23. Day 1b will take place at the same time on Saturday, July 24, while the surviving players from both flights will return at 11 a.m. on Sunday, July 25 to play down to a winner.

The Main Event, which will be live reported by PokerNews, will start players with 25,000 in chips and play 40-minute levels.

The MSPT first visited Riverside Casino back in March when it attracted a state record 862 entries. 27-year-old Daniel Sepiol emerged victorious in that tournament to claim a career-high score of $162,750.

"I've played a lot of these tournaments and made some deep runs but never really made runs at the final table," he said after the win. "So, it feels good."

July's edition is expected to be another large affair, so don't hesitate in making your plans today.

Maria Konnikova opened to 600 and was called by five players behind. Matt Vaughan then squeezed to 3,600 from the small blind and everyone folded except the player in the cutoff.

The flop came {4-Spades}{j-Hearts}{2-Diamonds} and Vaughan check-called a 3,000 from his opponent.

Vaughan then led out for 1,000 on the {k-Spades} turn, which his opponent called.

The {3-Diamonds} completed the board and Vaughan shoved for about 17,000. His opponent quickly folded and Vaughan scooped the pot.

"I don't think I'm supposed to call," Cristos said.

But he did anyways and tabled {6-Clubs}{3-Clubs}

"Six-high, baby! Lets go!" Cristos exclaimed.

The player in the big revealed {a-Hearts}{j-Spades} and the board ran out {6-Hearts}{5-Spades}{5-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}, leaving Cristos with a full house and eliminating his opponent.

Daniel Vampan opened to 600 first-to-act and directly behind him, a player three-bet to 2,000. Action folded back around to Vampan, who tossed in a call.

Vampan then proceeded to check-call on each street. First for 2,500 on the {q-Spades}{8-Clubs}{5-Clubs} flop, then for 4,600 on the {3-Diamonds} turn, and finally for 6,600 on the {3-Spades} river.

His opponent reluctantly showed {k-Clubs}{4-Clubs} and Vampan took down the pot when he revealed {8-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} for nines and treys.

Morgan Loses Most of His Stack

Level 2 : 100/200, 0 ante

On a flop of {j-Clubs}{3-Spades}{4-Diamonds}, John Morgan checked from the big blind and a player in middle position bet 500. Another player in the cutoff raised to 1,600 and Morgan then check-raised to 4,000. Undeterred, the initial bettor shoved for 25,800 and action folded back around to Morgan, who called.

Morgan: {a-Spades}{j-Spades}
MP: {3-Clubs}{4-Clubs}

Morgan ran into bottom two-pair, and the {10-Hearts} turn and {k-Diamonds} river kept him second best — forcing Morgan to surrender the majority of his stack.
