Fred Miller On Top of Counts After Day 1c

Level 14 : 2,000/4,000, 400 ante
Day 1c Chip Leader, Fred Miller
Day 1c Chip Leader, Fred Miller

The Tampa poker players came out in force today for Day 1c of the 2014 PPC North America Championship at Tampa Downs with 134 entrants bringing the total numbers for the $200,000 Guaranteed Prize Pool to 315. When play wrapped up shortly before 9 p.m. local time, there were only 20 of those players remaining.

Fred Miller used momentum from a key double up against Natasha Barbour late in play to end with the biggest stack of the day at 268,400. This moved Miller into the overall chip lead ahead of Day 1a chip leader Arri Stone's 250,100. The second biggest stack of Day 1c would belong to Stanley Trim with 245,400. Trim hit a two outer to score a massive double up against John Pappas as play came to a close. Rounding out the top three was Ian Zeaman with a stack of 231,800.

Others that will move on to final day play on Sunday included Giancarlo Disalvo (95,000), Chris Thompson (180,100), Robert Harwell (120,900), John Pappas (42,200), Evlys Gutierrez (210,000), and Natasha Barbour (35,900). Those that fell short and would have to return to play Day 1d if they wanted to have a shot at the $200,000+ prize pool included Mike Raimon, Andrew Malowitz, Sam Medina Jr., Chris Bolek, Chris Lewis, and Jordan Wunder.

This concludes our coverage of Day 1c. Make sure to follow along with PokerNews as we continue our coverage with Day 1d and come back tomorrow until a winner is determined.

Last Hand of the Night Sees Fireworks at Two Tables

Level 14 : 2,000/4,000, 400 ante

In what would be the last hand of the night, there would be an elimination at one table and a double up at another table. Julio Martinez doubled up with {J-Spades}{J-Clubs} against the {K-Clubs}{9-Hearts} of Chris Thompson when Martinez moved all in on a {8-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{6-Hearts} flop and would fade the outs Thompson had when the turn and river bricked out.

William Dubay would deliver the knock out blow to end play for the night when his {J-Hearts}{J-Diamonds} took out a short-stacked player holding {K-Spades}{Q-Diamonds} when the board ran out {10-Spades}{7-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{A-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}.

We'll have full chip counts of the 20 surviving players momentarily.

Pappas Gets Trimmed

Level 14 : 2,000/4,000, 400 ante
Stanley Trim
Stanley Trim

With a flop of {K-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}{3-Spades} chips started flying into the middle between Stanley Trim and John Pappas with Pappas moving all in and getting quickly called by Trim. Pappas had flopped a set with {3-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} and Trim had flopped bottom two pair with {J-Hearts}{3-Hearts}. The turn was the {8-Hearts} keeping Pappas in the lead and he only needed to avoid one of two jacks to knock out Trim and move into the chip lead. The river was cruel for Pappas and sweet for Trim as it was the {J-Hearts} giving Trim a bigger full house.

The rest of the table oohhh'ed and aaahhh'ed as a frustrated Pappas counted out the chips he owed Trim.

What About the Spades?

Level 14 : 2,000/4,000, 400 ante

We got to the table and the dealer was chopping up a pot between Natasha Barbour who held {A-}{3-} and Fred Miller who had {A-Spades}{K-Spades} on a double paired board. No one, except for Miller, was aware of the three spades that were on the board and as the dealer was working on splitting up the chips Miller looked once more at the board and asked the dealer "what about the spades?"

It was then that the dealer — and the rest of the table — noticed that Miller had hit the nut flush. Much to Barbour's chagrin, she had to send a full double up over to Miller who moved up to 145,000. Barbour was crippled down to 32,000 after the hand.

Raimon Loses Race

Level 13 : 1,500/3,000, 300 ante

Mike Raimon was down to less than eight big blinds and moved all in first to act from the small blind and was called by the big blind. Raimon held {6-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} and was racing against his opponent's {2-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}. The board would run out {Q-Hearts}{J-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{K-Clubs}{8-Spades} and Raimon was off to sweat his wife Natasha Barbour who still had chips.

Down to 26

Level 13 : 1,500/3,000, 300 ante

We're down to 26 players after Ian Zeaman called a close to 30,000 all in bet with {A-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} and would hit a pair of sixes on the {7-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}{J-Hearts} board to best the short-stacked players {K-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}. Six more players until play concludes in Day 1c.
