Mateos Smacks River to Survive
Level 16
: Blinds 10,000/25,000, 25,000 ante
Adrian Mateos raised to 50,000 from middle position, and Thomas Boivin defended his big blind.
All the money then found its way into the middle on the 9♠8♠3♣ flop, as Boivin checked to Mateos, who continued for 90,000. Boivin check-raised to 240,000 before calling when Mateos moved all-in for 865,000.
Adrian Mateos: Q♥Q♦
Thomas Boivin: 9♥3♥
It was a big blind special for Boivin, who had flopped two pair to lead Mateos's pocket queens.
The 5♦ turn had no effect on the standings, but the Q♣ river arrived just in time for Mateos, who reclaimed the lead to double up.
