Jonathan Weekes opened for 1,275 and was raised to 3,500 by Paul McTaggart. Having sized up each other’s remaining stacks Weekes moved all-in and was called. Weekes tabled {10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} and was the player at risk, racing against the {a-Clubs}{k-Hearts} of McTaggart. The flop came down {3-Clubs}{9-Spades}{k-Diamonds} giving McTaggart a significant lead. Chip leader Niall Farrell was at the same table and piped up to needle his friend McTaggart. “Ten, ten.” He called, but the {7-Diamonds} on the turn and {j-Diamonds} river were no help to Weekes and he was out.

Farrell then decided to entertain the table with the story of McTaggart’s EPT London adventure. He had been due to play Day 1a of the main event but had ended up still out enjoying the less salubrious side of what London has to offer at 8am. Calling the venue to see if he could move to Day 1b Farrell advised his friend to say his car had broken down or some other misfortune. Taking up the story McTaggart admitted, “I couldn’t tell I lie. I told her I was still drunk.” The woman on the other end of the line laughed for a few minutes and replied that unfortunately that wasn’t reason enough to move days.
