When to Limp UTG

Level 3 : 75/150, 0 ante

This isn’t a play you see advised by many strategy books, but it happens, and it happened here at the UKIPT Main Event. Under the gun, Kenneth Coote limped for 150. He got 5 callers including the blinds and we saw a 6 way flop of {9-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}. The blinds checked and Coote bet 350 finding only one caller in the shape of Owen Fenwick. {8-Clubs} was the turn and again Coote bet, now 650 and was called once more by Fenwick. The river was the {5-Hearts}, 1,250 the bet from Coote. Fenwick made his move and raised to 4,050. Coote wasn’t a believer though and made the call. Prompted by the dealer to reveal his cards Fenwick eventually showed {3-Diamonds}{3-Hearts} and was way behind Coote’s {a-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}.

Eames Shoves River

Level 4 : 100/200, 25 ante
John Eames
John Eames

The board was reading {3-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{Q-Spades} and Sin Melin checked, John Eames bet 3,400 and the Full Tilt Poker Tour Ambassador quickly called to see the {J-Hearts} on the river.

Melin checked again and Eames moved all in for 13,475. Melin took a minute or two, clearly unimpressed with the size of the shove, before she opted to fold her hand.

Jamieson Left High and Dry

Level 4 : 100/200, 25 ante

It's game over for Nicholas Jamieson, he was all in on the turn of a {6-Spades}{3-Spades}{K-Clubs}{Q-Clubs} board with {K-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} but found Martin Hanitz behind him with {K-Hearts}{Q-Spades} for a bigger two pair.

The {7-Spades} on the river changed nothing and Hanitz upped his stack to about 40,000.

Tough Table Part Two

Level 4 : 100/200, 25 ante
Fatima Moreira de Melo
Fatima Moreira de Melo

We reported earlier on in the day how Irish PokerStars qualifier Tomasz Raniszewski landed a tough table draw with Sin Melin, John Eames, Ike Haxton and Fatima De Melo, and so it has proved to be. He was in a hand with De Melo and bet 525 on a flop of {3-Spades}{2-Clubs}{4-Diamonds} and got his call. They both checked the {3-Diamonds} turn and saw a river card {5-Hearts}. Raniszewski checked it over to the Dutch Pro and she obliged with a bet of 800. Raniszewski’s shoulders sagged and he made the call. De Melo showed the {a-Spades}{10-Spades} for the rivered straight. Raniszewski is down to his last 5,400.

Nick Abou Risk, a PokerStars player, opened the action for 500 and got a call from the player to his left, István Csabai, and the blinds. {10-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} came the flop and the blinds checked to Abou Risk who continued for 1,025. Csabai made the call, the blinds folded and it was heads up. The turn was the {2-Hearts} and Abou Risk bet 2,625. Csabai called again and the final card was a {3-Hearts}. 7,700 now was the hefty bet from Abou Risk and Csabai went in the tank. The reason became clear when he finally called. Abou Risk showed the winning hand {k-Hearts}{j-Hearts} for a flush, and Csabai tabled {q-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} for top pair and a missed flush draw. Beware those back door draws.

Going for Gold

Eugenio Verde opened to 400 preflop from the cutoff and UKIPT Galway champion Alan Gold three-bet to 925 on the button. Verde called to see a {4-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} flop.

Verde checked and Gold bet 1,000. Verde looked at his cards.

"You got one?" asked Gold.
"Eh?" said Verde.
"You have a diamond when you looked?"
"No."

At that point, Verde check-raised to 2,500 and Gold folded instantly.

"Two diamonds then?" said Gold with a smile.
