Day 1b UKIPT Isle of Man

Day 1b is about to start at the inaugural Isle of Man UKIPT here at the Villa Marina, with cards in the air at 12pm. Billed as PokerStars first official home game, the island is home to The Rational Group, the parent company of PokerStars.

Many of the Team PokerStars Pros flew in yesterday and amongst those who are playing today are newly crowned WSOP Player of the Year Daniel Negreanu who won the WSOPE High Roller in Paris just over a week ago. It’s the second time Negreanu has won the title. Other Pros who will be playing today include Jason Mercier, Vanessa Rousso, Barry Greenstein, Jake Cody, Liv Boeree , Issac Haxton, Leo Margets and Fatima de Melo.

Alan Gold who won the UKIPT Galway back in August is here of course. He led the field from Day 1 and used his relentless aggression to smash his way through the field to victory in spectacular fashion. As well as winning €187,494 in a deal heads up he won an online qualifiers last longer deal which earned him free entries to all the remaining stops on the UKIPT Tour.

Numbers are expected to be up on yesterday’s 114 entrants, but there is still expected to an overlay on the guaranteed prize pool of £500,000, so there is plenty of value to be had. With so many big names from the poker world playing today however this could justifiably be described as one of the toughest Day 1's we’ve ever seen on the UKIPT.

There will be Halloween party tonight at the Tahiko Nightclub for all the players, with the winner of the best fancy dress competition winning a seat in the UKIPT Nottingham 6-Max Main Event, the next even on the calendar. So stay tuned to PokerNews for full coverage of all the spooky bets, scary turn cards and horrific beats.

Greeting Greenstein

Level 1 : 25/50, 0 ante

There were a few nervous and expectant glances as Barry Greenstein moved between the tables to find his seat, and there were sighs of relief from adjacent tables as he took his place at table 6 in the nine seat and posted his big blind. He acknowledged a few “Hi Barry” greetings from the table and the cards were dealt. A min raise to 100 from early position was greeted by a raise to 225 from the button and Greenstein released his hand. We suspect it won’t always be that easy.

Hennesey is the First Casualty

Level 1 : 25/50, 0 ante

There's already been one casualty in this, the very first level.

Louis Hennesey was all in with {A-Clubs}{K-Diamonds} against Mick Graydon's {K-Spades}{K-Clubs} with the board coming {10-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{4-Spades}{8-Hearts}.

Jon Spinks, also on the table, said, "On any other table this might look pretty bad, but our table has been playing super aggressive so it's absolutely fine. I'd be happy to get it in with eights here and would be disappointed if I was behind!"
