Day 2 Completed

Daniel Chutrov Takes Big Chip Lead Into the Final Day

Level 18 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante

The main story on Day 1a was that of Daniel Chutrov turning his 30,000 starting stack into 539,500 chips over the course of nine hours. Today, Day 2 of the 2015 Unibet Open Glasgow Main Event, Chutrov was once again in the headlines for all the right reasons and bagged up 2,024,000 chips at the close of play.

It wasn’t all plain sailing for the young Bulgarian because he saw his stack dwindle during the early levels, which saw him hover around the average stack. But, and it’s a big but, Chutrov’s Day 1a run-good came back to him in the final few levels and he bulldozed his way to the top of the chip counts.

Chutrov was the first player to break through the one-million chip barrier after he eliminated Sweden’s Dennis Lindmark from the tournament during the 17th level of play. Chutrov opened to 25,000 from under the gun at the 6,000/12,000/2,000 level and the action passed to Lindmark in the cutoff. Lindmark then three-bet all-in for 336,000 and Chutrov called.

Lindmark flipped over the {J-Clubs}{J-Hearts} and, as expected, the hot-running Chutrov turned over a superior hand in the shape of the {Q-Hearts}{Q-Spades}. A {2-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{3-Spades} board kept Chutrov’s hand best and he soared to 1.1 million in chips.

From that point on, Chutrov started to turn the screw to pull out to a mammoth chip lead. To put that lead into perspective, Chutrov’s nearest rival has 903,000 chips, which is less than half of his total.

Each of the 10 surviving players are guaranteed at least £3,050 for their effort thus far thanks to the money bubble bursting during Day 2 proceedings.

The unfortunate bubble was Lithuania’s Matas Levanas who pushed all-in for seven-and-a-half big blinds with {K-}{J-} and was looked up by Herman Hjalm and his {A-}{Q-}. The ace-queen improved to two pair on the flop and then an unbeatable full house on the turn to bust Levanas in 25th place and put everyone else into the money.

Play resumes at 12:00 p.m. BST (not 11:00 a.m. as previously advertised) and continues until one man has won each of the 6,630,000 chips in play. Whoever does that becomes the 2015 Unibet Open Glasgow champion and leaves the iconic Celtic Park venue with £43,000 in their back pocket.

Granskas Shoves on Wenbin

Level 18 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante

Ramunas Granskas made it 40,000 to go from the cutoff on his short-handed table and the action folded to Chen Wenbin in the big blind. Wenbin asked how many chips his opponent had behind before three-betting to 83,000. Without hesitation, Granskas four-bet all-in.

Wenbin asked for an official count and was told he needed to pay an additional 218,000 if he wanted to call. Wenbin counted this amount of chips out but didn't bet them, opting to put them back into his stack and look for a different spot to commit the majority of his stack.

Pekarskas Perishes

Level 18 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante
Zigmas Pekarskas

Zigmas Pekarskas has busted at the hands of, you guessed it, Daniel Chutrov. The Bulgarian is seemingly unstoppable.

Pekarskas raised all-in for 210,000 chips from the button and Chutrov called from the big blind. Chutrov was slightly behind, his {K-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts} trailing the {5-Spades}{5-Hearts} of Pekarskas, but when you're running hot things tend to go you way, which is exactly what happened when the five community cards ran {8-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{k-Clubs} to send Pekarskas to the rail in 11th place.

Chutrov Adds More to His Stack

Level 17 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante

Daniel Chutrov raised to 20,000 from the cutoff, Heins Kalde called from the small blind and Zigmas Pekarskas called from the big blind.

Kalde checked the {7-Spades}{k-Spades}{9-Clubs} flop, Pekarskas bet 35,000 and only Chutrov called. The turn saw the {J-Spades} make an appearance and Pekarskas welcomed it with a 65,000 bet, a bet that was called by Chutrov. Pekarskas then checked the {2-Diamonds} river, Chutrov bet 115,000 and Pekarskas mucked his hand.
