Day 1b of the 2015 Unibet Open Glasgow Main Event was completed on Sunday and it was another day of superb poker action inside Celtic Park football stadium. By the time late registration closed at the end of the fourth 60-minute level, 115 entries had been taken, meaning the total attendance over the two starting flights stands at 221.

While Day 1a was all about Daniel Chutrov’s one-man wrecking spree, one that resulted in him bagging up an unbelievable 539,500 chips at the end of nine levels, Day 1b was more of a slow burner, although there was one monster-sized stack to count at the close of play, that of Wenbin Chen.

Chen finished the night with an impressive stack of 370,000 and goes into Monday’s Day 2 in second place overall. By his own admission, Chen ran extremely well and was picking up more than his fair share of premium hands throughout proceedings. Only time will tell if he can keep stacking chips and if Lady Luck stops shining down on him.

The second and final starting flight attracted some of poker’s more established players including the United Kingdom’s John Eames, the Netherlands’ former European Poker Tour Grand Final champion Pieter de Korver, Scottish online grinder Paul McTaggart and Denmark’s Morten Mortensen. Of that quartet of names, only McTaggart and Mortensen progressed to Day 2 and they’re armed with 35,500 and 39,800 chips respectively.

Whoever wins the £800+£80 buy-in Main Event walks away with a cool £43,000 for their efforts, a nice return on investment we’re sure that you’ll agree. A min-cash is worth £1,700 and the tournament will definitely be awarding its prize money before play ends on Day 2.

Day 2 kicks off at 11:00 a.m. local time on Monday morning and a decision will be made during the tournament as to how many levels are played. There was talk earlier of playing down to the final table, but this is yet to be confirmed. Rest assured, as soon as the information because official we’ll relay it you you delightful folks at home.

Until then, sleep well and we’ll see you bright and early on Monday morning.

Deinum Shove Gets Through

Level 9 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Foeke Deinum
Foeke Deinum

The Netherlands' Foeke Deinum checked from the big blind on a flop reading {7-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}{6-Clubs} prompting Krzysztof Stuchlik to bet 5,000 from two seats across. The button, Herman Hjalm, called only to see Deinum check-raise to 15,600. Stuchlik went into the tank for the best part of two minutes before calling and Hjalm mucked.

Deinum then jammed all-in for 43,000 effective when the {9-Spades} appeared on the turn. Stuchlik went into the tank for a further three-to-four minutes before failing to pull the trigger and folding.

Kulka Kills Off Vouksenmaa

Level 9 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Andrzej Kulka, the player who claimed most of Paul McTaggart's stack, has sent Jorma Vouksenmaa to the rail as the final level nears its end.

All the chips went flying into the middle of the Unibet-branded felt, Vouksenmaa holding a slight advantage, his {10-Spades}{10-Clubs} racing against the {A-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs} of his opponent. It was a race he would soon lose as the {K-Spades}{7-Clubs}{A-Hearts} flop gifted Kulka a pair of aces, the {Q-Diamonds} two pair and when the {K-Diamonds} showed up on the river, Vouksenmaa was evicted from the tournament.

McTaggart Mauled Then Doubles Up

Level 9 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Paul McTaggart lost the vast majority of his stack when he couldn't stay ahead of {A-}{Q-} which made two pair by the river. He shoved all-in on the very next hand and picked up the blinds and antes. The hand after that he pushed all-in again and this time picked up a caller with {A-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}, which dominated his {8-Hearts}{7-Hearts}.

"Nice flop for you," said McTaggart's opponent as the flop fell {10-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}. The {K-Clubs} missed McTaggart but the {J-Clubs} on the river improved him to a straight and he doubled up but still has some work to do.

Morten Mortensen oof Denmark raised to 2,600 from early position and was called by three opponents. The first was Juraj Kadlubiak to his immediate left, the next was Paul McTaggart on the button and the third was Jorma Vouksenmaa in the small blind.

Vouksenmaa and Mortensen checked the {Q-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{9-Hearts} flop, Kadlubik tried his luck with a 6,100 bet and only Mortensen called. Both active players checked the arrival of the {7-Spades} turn, leading the dealer to place the {J-Clubs} onto the board as the final community card.

Mortensen riffled chips for the best part of 30-seconds before betting 10,200 — leaving himself around 6,000 chips behind.

"Call," said Kadubik confidently but that confidence was soon shot down when he saw the {9-Diamonds}{9-Spades} in front of Mortensen.
