Bracelet Winner El Yousfi Finishes in Top Three on Day 1b of UDSO Marrakech Main Event

Level 12 : Blinds 1,000/2,500, 2,500 ante
Said El Yousfi
Said El Yousfi

The second starting flight of the 2025 Unibet DeepStack Open Marrakech Main Event at Casino de Marrakech attracted 256 entries, bringing the overall total to 466 and creating a prize pool of 2,469,800 MAD (€232,600 approx.). After nearly twelve levels of play, just 63 players advanced from Day 1b.

Among the standouts was Said El Yousfi, who bagged a top-three stack. The French bracelet winner, with more than $1.1 million in live earnings, is no stranger to success in Marrakech and will be one to watch when play resumes. El Yousfi captured the 2016 WSOP Global Casino Championship for $343,256 and added another UDSO title in 2020. Now he’s well-placed to mount another deep tournament run and book his first recorded win since 2023.

Leading the way was Mustapha Berraho, who finished with 510,000 chips, putting clear daylight between himself and the chasing pack. Marius Agica (426,500) and El Yousfi (425,000) rounded out the top three, while names like Mauro Dantas and Jean Dumartin also crossed the 380,000 mark. Roger Tondeur (357,000) and Sabry Ferhaoui (356,000) weren’t far behind, setting up a tightly packed leaderboard.

Angle Controversy Sparks Early Fireworks

Jean-Pierre Barokhel
Jean-Pierre Barokhel

Day 1b got off to a fiery start with angle accusations on Table #4. In a three-way all-in pot, Jean-Pierre Barokhel ended up with a full house against the ace-queen of Parham Ahoor and the flush of Abdelmalik Farahi.

Barokhel’s chips went soaring past 175,000 just in Level 2, but not without drama as his initial declaration of “raise” on the flop before backtracking caused both Ahoor and Farahi to accuse him of angling. Ahoor and Farahi re-entered and battled back to survive to the end the day, while Barokhel also advanced.

Famous Comedian Bows Out to Close the Night

Popular French comedian Ahmed Sylla was the final elimination of the night. Sylla, who boasts 1.3 million Instagram followers, moved all in with suited connectors but was called and bested by Dumartin’s ace-ten. The bust-out marked the end of play, with Sylla certain to draw more attention if he returns for Day 1c or the turbo Day 1d tomorrow.

The Main Event continues on Friday, September 19, with Day 1c at 1 p.m. followed by the final turbo flight, Day 1d at 9 p.m. Both flights will once again play down to 25% of the field, with survivors booking their spots for Day 2 on Saturday.

As always, be sure to keep it locked in with PokerNews.

The board ran out A3Q56 to give Dumartin top pair and end Sylla’s run in Marrakech.

The comedian, who has 1.3 million Instagram followers, was the final elimination of the night as his bustout marked the end of Day 1b. There was no encore this time, but Sylla can take another shot in Day 1c or Day 1d tomorrow.

Just after, "Aramajo" was also eliminated, meaning 63 players will advance to Day 2.

USDO Cup Winner Gabriel Eliminated

Level 7 : Blinds 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Gabriel Villar Montes
Gabriel Villar Montes

There was a large pot brewing between Mauro Dantas and USDO Cup winner Gabriel Villar Montes on Table #12.

There was around 17,000 on the middle on the 764 flop.

Cards were on their backs, with Montes showing 74 from the small blind for two pair. Dantas was on the button with 88.

Montes had a stack of around 62,000 with Dantas having 79,000.

The Q kept Montes ahead, but Dantas picked up a flush draw.

The 3 completed the board to give Dantas the checkmark and send the opening event winner to the rail.

Montes captured the UDSO Cup for 200,000 MAD (~€19,000). The triumph was especially moving as it marked his return to the felt following a heart attack suffered in Las Vegas earlier this summer.

Too Many Outs for Byrne

Level 4 : Blinds 200/500, 500 ante

There was 13,700 in the pot on the J97 flop, with four players contesting for it.

Daiva Byrne checked from under the gun before Guillaume Bailet-Goiran bet 2,500 from the next seat over. Oliver Armougon raised to 6,200 from the hijack and saw Marina Mendy cold-call from the cutoff.

Byrne then sprang into life, moving all-in for 19,300. Bailet-Goiran called, which pushed out Armougon. Mendy made it 56,200, and after some thought, Bailet-Goiran folded.

Marina Mendy: J9

Bryne had a flush and straight draw, while Mendy had top two pair. Unfortunately for Byrne, the board bricked out with the 27 and she exited the room.

Barokhel Scoops Massive Pot Amid Controversy

Level 2 : Blinds 100/300, 300 ante
Jean-Pierre Barokhel
Jean-Pierre Barokhel

There was some commotion on Table #4 during a three-way all-in between Parham Ahoor, Abdelmalik Farahi, and Jean-Pierre Barokhel.

With around 6,000 already in the middle on a A49 flop, Ahoor led out for 2,200 from the big blind. Farahi raised to 11,500 from middle position, which prompted action from Barokhel on the button. Barokhel tossed in calling chips but announced raise before quickly backtracking, insisting he only wanted to call. The dealer ruled the action as a minimum raise, forcing the bet up.

That ruling set off fireworks. Ahoor shoved for his last 60,000, Farahi called off his 40,000, and Barokhel quickly came along to cover them both.

Abdelmalik Farahi: 52All in
Parham Ahoor: AQAll in
Jean-Pierre Barokhel: 99

Barokhel was ahead with his set of nines, and Ahoor made it clear that Barokhel had angled him and Farahi.

Barokhel was ahead with middle set, while Ahoor openly accused him of angle-shooting in the spot. The 10 turn briefly gave Farahi hope with a flush, but the 10 river improved Barokhel to a full house. He scooped the monster pot and catapulted his stack to over 175,000 in Level 2.

The Bubble Bursts

Day 2 saw several names bow out before the money, including Jean Montury (38th), Parham Ahoor (36th), Mohamed Mehalleg (34th), David Lichentin (32nd), and Mehdi Hsissen (31st).

The unfortunate bubble boy was Kamal Jbirane, who shoved king-six into Baltazar’s ten-six and watched her make a full house to eliminate him in 28th place. From that moment, every remaining player was guaranteed a share of the prize pool.
