Phil Laak opened to 90,000 in early position and Giovanni Paticchio called from the next seat before Anthony Spinella three-bet to 380,000 in the small blind. Dejan Kaladjurdjevic then cold four-bet to 670,000 and Laak and Paticchio folded before Spinella went deep in the tank.
Spinella used five time banks before calling to see a flop of 4♥9♣8♥. Spinella checked and Kaladjurdjevic sized down to 400,000. Spinella check-jammed for around 1,600,000 and Kaladjurdjevic snap-called with more.
Anthony Spinella: J♦J♠
Dejan Kaladjurdjevic: A♥Q♥
Spinella was in front with jacks but needed to dodge plenty as Kaladjurdjevic picked up a flush draw. The board finished out 8♣2♦ to earn Spinella a major double.
Laak sat back in disbelief at the action and revealed to PokerNews that he folded pocket nines and would've won it all.
"That was beautiful," he said sarcastically. "If you're a masochist, come play cards."
Klemens Roiter raised to 80,000 in middle position, and Dong Chen made the call on the button. Stephen Chidwick moved all in from the small blind for 380,000, and Roiter made the call.
Chen got out of the way, leaving Chidwick at risk heads up.
Stephen Chidwick: K♣Q♣
Klemens Roiter: A♣K♥
Chidwick was dominated until the 7♣4♣3♣ flop gave him a flush. Roiter was looking for one more club, but couldn't find one on the 5♥ turn or 10♠ river and Chidwick doubled up.
Action was picked up with Hannes Jeschka all-in for 1,065,000, and Daniel Becher all-in for less, with Jean-Noel Thorel putting both players at risk.
Daniel Becher: A♣9♣
Hannes Jeschka: 8♦8♣
Jean-Noel Thorel: K♠Q♠
Jeschka was in front with his pocket eights, but would need to fade four overcards. He was not able to do so after the 7♥K♦7♣ flop put Thorel in the lead. However, the 8♠ on the turn gave Jeschka a full house, leaving both Thorel and Becher drawing dead. The 5♠ on the river completed the board, as Becher quickly left the table and Jeschka scooped the pot.
Action was picked up with both Rachid Ben Cherif all-in for 285,000 and Cary Katz all-in for 900,000, with [Removed:564] putting both players at risk.
Rachid Ben Cherif: K♥Q♣
Cary Katz: 8♥8♦
[Removed:564]: J♠J♦
[Removed:565] was ahead with pocket jacks, looking to score a double knockout. He stayed in front after the 10♠9♥6♦ flop, but the 8♣ on the turn gave Katz a set, giving him a commanding lead. [Removed:565] could not improve after the 6♣ completed the board, giving Katz more than a double up, and eliminating Ben Cherif.

Earlier in the week, 108 players advanced from Day 2a, with Martin Kabrhel finishing the day atop the chip counts after a highly active session. Kabrhel was involved in several notable pots, including a confrontation with Mustapha Kanit, who was eliminated late on Day 2a after the two tangled in a pivotal hand. Despite that exit, Kanit had already secured a cash on Day 2a and is back in action today after bagging chips during Day 1c (2,585,000) to qualify for Day 2b.

The players will reach the money once again during Day 2b, with play scheduled to continue until approximately seven percent of the total field remains, setting the stage for a unified Day 3.
