Frederic Normand Leads Day 1d After Guarantee Reached in WSOP Paradise Super Main Event

Level 10 : Blinds 15,000/25,000, 25,000 ante
Frederic Normand

The fourth and final starting flight of Event #11: $25,000 Super Main Event at the World Series of Poker Paradise (WSOPP) inside Atlantis Paradise Island in the Bahamas wrapped up early Monday morning with 178 players remaining and Canada's Frederic Normand leading the way over big stacks like four-time bracelet winner Chad Eveslage and five-time bracelet winner Robert Mizrachi, the older brother of the reigning Main Event champion.

Among those notables who bagged on Day 1d are poker power couple Jennifer Tilly and Phil Laak, cash game hero Alan Keating, high-stakes pros Seth Davies, Viktor Blom and Nacho Barbero, Main Event champions Espen Jorstad and Martin Jacobson, and Daniel Negreanu, who has proven to have more lives than the feral cats of Paradise Island after advancing on his tenth bullet.

$63 Million & Counting

The overlay counter displayed on the tournament clocks was all the rage on Sunday, with WSOP staff and media members waiting eagerly for the event to reach and surpass the $60 million guarantee.

That happened well before dinner break as the overlay ticked to zero, and the entries kept coming to bring the prize pool up to $63 million so far. Registration remains open into Day 2b, so expect the field and prize pool to grow further.

Chucky actress Tilly and Poker Boom personality Laak took their seats early, and the latter made friends at the table before putting a tough beat on an opponent with a rivered four-outer.

Across the room, plenty of attention was paid to a stacked final table in the $50,000 High Roller as Josh Arieh chased an eighth bracelet before going out in fifth place ahead of a marathon heads-up battle between Charles Hook and Michael "Texas Mike" Moncek.

Later in the evening, Negreanu joined the field with a wine glass in hand on his ninth bullet after notoriously firing eight times on Day 1a. The poker superstar yelled, smacked the table, put on a Russian accent, and went all in on his first hand to put on quite the show in the Super Main Event, later rushing across the room to vlog the $50,000 PLO High Roller heads-up battle.

A frisky Negreanu would go on to bust that ninth bullet to bring his entries up to double digits. With his tenth entry, he earned a spot in Day 2b after a few big hands in the final level of play.

Other highlights from the day include Alex Difelicele tripling up with pocket queens, poker legend David Benyamine putting a gross beat on an opponent after another opponent's mistake and retired NBA star Tony Parker getting his aces cracked.

Those who failed to bag include statistician and Life Outside Poker podcast guest Nate Silver, reigning Main Event champ Michael Mizrachi, GTO Wizard ambassador [Removed:607], and high-stakes pros Nick Petrangelo and Yuri Dzivielevski.

Action will resume with Day 2b on Monday at noon local time. The plan is to play into the money and down to 7% of the field.

Stay tuned as the PokerNews live reporting team is on-site here in the Bahamas and will continue providing updates in the Super Main Event.

Frederic Normand

Sergei Gurin opened to 60,000 from under the gun before Drew Gonzalez shoved for 440,000 from the hijack. Frederic Normand called from the cutoff and Giovanni Paticchio did the same from the big blind. Gurin then reshoved for 595,000. Normand called, and Paticchio also stuck around.

Paticchio check-called for his last 205,000 after Normand shoved as the covering stack on the 1097 flop.

Sergei Gurin: KKAll in
Giovanni Paticchio: 87All in
Frederic Normand: AK

Some monster hands were tabled alongside the eight-seven offsuit, but Normand had everyone crushed after he flopped the ace-high flush.

The 5 turn gave him the checkmark in the four-way all-in, with the 5 river completing the board.

After a scan around the room, it appears that Normand will be the Day 1d chip leader as just 12 minutes remain on the clock.

Difelice Triples Up

Level 10 : Blinds 15,000/25,000, 25,000 ante
Alex Difelice
Alex Difelice

Romain Morvan raised on the button, and Yuan Lei three-bet to 330,000 in the small blind while leaving a single 1,000 chip behind. Alex Difelice the shoved his smaller stack from the big blind, and Morvan quickly called.

Morvan went to turn up his cards, and Lei showed him the one remaining chip in his stack. They both added 1,000 blind, and all three hands were turned up.

Alex Difelice: QQ All in
Yuan Lei: A2 All in
Romain Morvan: AK

Difelice was in great shape to start the hand, and the 98610J eluded all three players. That left Difelice with the triple-up, while Morvan claimed the side pot to eliminate Lei.

"I Was Not In This Hand": Player Misclick Leads Benyamine to Flop the Nuts

Level 10 : Blinds 15,000/25,000, 25,000 ante
David Benyamine
David Benyamine

There was light drama at Table 94 as Manuel Pochat moved all in for 255,000 from early position before James Caputo, without seeing there had been a raise, tried to open to 65,000. David Benyamine then called behind him before they were alerted of the previous action.

Caputo opted to fold and surrender his 65,000 while Benyamine groaned about his predicament.

"I was not even in this hand," Benyamine said before reluctantly calling.

Manuel Pochat: AJ All in
David Benyamine: A7

Though he didn't even want a part in the hand, the flop landed 5K10 to give Benyamine the nut flush before the board finished out 42 to send his opponent to the rail.

"Oh my god. That's insane," he said before pointing to Caputo. "He made me win the hand!"

Mizrachi moved all in for 515,000, and Blom stuck in the call.

Manuel Carvalho
Manuel Carvalho

Amirpasha Emami opened to 35,000 in early position, and Manuel Carvalho called in the small blind. Espen Jorstad defended his big blind, and the 34J flop was fanned out.

Carvalho and Jorstad checked to Emami, who continued for 30,000. Carvalho took some time before sliding out a raise to 110,000, and Jorstad quickly folded.

Emami pondered his decision for a bit, opting to let his hand go as Carvalho raked in the chips.

Negreanu Has Been Activated

Level 7 : Blinds 6,000/12,000, 12,000 ante
Daniel Negreanu
Daniel Negreanu

Daniel Negreanu has played almost every hand so far — "Let's just agree to give him all the chips!" joked Nitis Udornpim — including when Jareth East raised to 25,000 on the button and Negreanu three-bet to 75,000 in the big blind.

"You're going to fold, so just fold!" Negreanu said as he smacked the table. East did fold and both players showed an ace.

The next hand, Seth Davies opened on the button and Negreanu and Weiran Pu called in the blinds.

Action checked to Davies on the flop of 1068 and he continued for 35,000. Negreanu check-raised to 105,000 and only Davies called. Both players then checked on the A turn and 6 river before Davies turned over K10 for a pair of tens.

"You were behind!" Negreanu said as he showed Q9 for a busted combo draw. He proceeded to pull up out his phone to look up his equity on the flop, joking that he was "going to use RTA at the table."
