Day 1 Completed

Mizzi Lays Out Layani

Sorel Mizzi opened UTG to 4,500, and Jonathan Layani three-bet to 16,000. Not one to be out-done, Mizzi slid a 25k plaque and some chips into the center making it 49,000 straight. Layani went deep into the tank before finally sliding in enough chips to make the call.

The flop dropped {8-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{q-Spades} and Mizzi quietly said, "all-in." Layani, reluctantly made the call only to see he was in bad shape with his pocket tens against Mizzi's {a-Hearts}{q-Clubs}. The turn was the {q-Spades}, and the river the {9-Diamonds} sending Layani to the rail and his 80,000 or so in chips over to Mizzi's already swollen stack.

Play has concluded for the night, and the final eight players will return back to the Aviation Club de France tomorrow at 3 p.m. to play down to the money, and to a WPT Grand Prix de Paris High-Roller Champion.

Layani Loses Ground

Roger Hairabedian limped UTG for 2,000 and Jonathan Layani raised it up directly to his left to about 7,000. Hairabedian made the call and the two saw a {6-Hearts}{k-Hearts}{j-Clubs}, prompting both players to check.

The turn was the {4-Spades} and Hairabedian led out for 12,000. Layani made the call and the players saw the {2-Clubs} hit the river.

Once again Hairabedian led out, this time for 21,000. Layani thought it through for about 30 seconds or so, counting out the chips it would take to make the call before eventually sliding the stack of yellow chips +1 into the center.

Hairabedian rolled over the {k-Spades}{j-Spades}, and Layani mucked.

Hairabedian had about 121,000 after the hand, while Layani slipped to about 80,000

The TV Bubble

Even though there is no money to be had until play gets four-handed, the final nine all want to get their camera time by making the official eight-handed final table. So far the action has tightened up with either a pre-flop open and no callers, or a pre-flop three-bet and no callers.

WIth the structure so fast, and some of the stacks relatively small this will certainly be no repeat of Wednesday's marathon bubble for the WPT Paris main event.

ElkYliminated in 10th place

It didn't take long for Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier to get this rest of his small stack into play.

According to the dealer, Freddy Deeb raised on the button to 6,000 with {a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}, and ElkY moved in with {a-}{j-}. Deeb made the call, and there were no suck-outs to be had as the board ran out nine-high.

We have now consolidated to one table, with Deeb sitting as our chip leader with 330,000.

Counts during the Break (full)

When we went over to check out chip counts during the ten-minute break, we noticed one Kristoffer Thorsson had been eliminated. We're down to ten players, and we'll call it a night when we hit eight.

Thorsson Sliding, Deeb's RIsing...

Kristoffer Thorsson, after having a ridiculously hot start has not only simmered down, but he's gone officially ice-cold. Each time we come to the table his stack seems to have dwindled more and more.

We happened to see him lose a few of those chips after Freddy Deeb limped from early position, and Thorsson raised it up to about 4,000. Deeb made the call, and the two saw a {j-Spades}{2-Spades}{4-Diamonds} flop.

Deeb checked to Thorsson who made it 5,000, only to see Deeb min-check-raise him to 10,000. Throsson called, and the two saw a {7-Spades} turn card. Both players checked, bringing the {6-Spades} on the river and both checked again.

Deeb said, "If you have a flush, it's good turning over pocket sixes for the rivered set." Throsson mucked and is down to about 27,000.
