The Champ Dethroned

Level 7 : 250/500, 75 ante
Marvin Rettenmaier
Marvin Rettenmaier

Marvin Rettenmaier has been eliminated. The German's last 9,000 went in preflop with {J-Hearts}{J-Diamonds} against Atahan Gukurova's {A-Spades}{J-Spades} but the board came {5-Clubs}{6-Spades}{Q-Spades}{8-Spades}{2-Clubs} to make Gukurova the nut flush. Rettenmaier didn't seem too downhearted, he's off to enjoy the big party happening outside tonight.

Pironen Takes it Away on the Turn

Level 7 : 250/500, 75 ante

Onur Unsal opened for 1,000 and big stack at the table Seyed Ghavam folded his small blind. Mika Pironen in the big blind asked Unsal how much he had, 13,000 was the answer. This seemed to satisfy Pironen and he made the call. A flop of {3-Spades}{j-Spades}{10-Hearts}. Both players checked and we saw a turn card, the {4-Diamonds}. Pironen led for 1,000 and got the fold from Unsal. Players on the short side will need to be careful with their stacks for now, only four more levels until the end of the day.

Kara Scott’s Fun Table

Level 6 : 200/400, 50 ante
Kara Scott
Kara Scott

The table that seems to be enjoying themselves the most today includes Canadian Pro Max Droege, Team Party Poker Player Kara Scott and a recent joiner Dominik Nitsche. In one corner of the table are sat three recreational players, Ali Baskan from Turkey, Majid Noubarian from Iran and Selcuk Ayaz also from Turkey.

Droege is sat to the left of them and has been prompting the conversation all day, getting them to show cards, laughing about who is chip leader and making sure they have a good time while he extracts as many chips as possible from them. Ayaz has been returning the favour by getting up to pranks like sending Droege’s fruit away.

But the Pros aren’t having it all their own way. Here’s a selection of hands from the last level.

Ayaz opened for 1,100 and, when Scott folded her small blind, Nitsche defended his big blind. They saw a flop of {8-Spades}{2-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}. Nitsche checked, Ayaz asked how much Nitsche was playing and heard, “Twenty three thousand.” Ayaz bet 2,000 and Nitsche folded.

Baskan bet 1,050 on a {6-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{2-Hearts} board. Scott called and Nitsche folded. {a-Hearts} on the turn and Baskan called Scott’s bet of 2,500. The final card was {5-Clubs}. Both players checked. Baskan thought the river had helped his {4-Clubs}{5-Spades} but Scott had the better two pair with {a-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}.

Scott opened for 900, Noubarian called and Droege in the small blind (with an absent big blind) made the call too. They saw a flop of {8-Spades}{10-Hearts}{7-Spades}. Droege checked, Scott bet 1,500 and Noubarian called. Back on Droege who folded. The turn card of {6-Clubs} saw the two remaining players check and the free river card was {6-Hearts}. Scott bet 3,000 into the amateur who made the call and tabled {10-Spades}{j-Clubs}, too good for Scott who mucked her hand.

The fun continues after the dinner break.

Yilmaz Wins Big Pot From Sekularac

Level 6 : 200/400, 50 ante
Ognjen Sekularac
Ognjen Sekularac

There's definitely a metagame going on between these two.

On an {8-Clubs}{J-Hearts}{8-Spades} flop, Erkut Yilmaz bet 1,275 before Ognjen Sekularac made it 3,000. Yilmaz came back over the top with a three-bet to 5,075 and the Serbian pro made the call.

The {6-Clubs} turn saw Sekularac call another bet, this time it was 6,675 and the dealer put on the {9-Clubs} making a backdoor flush. Now Yilmaz bet a huge 11,275 and Sekularac tanked and gave his opponent a big long staredown. Finally Sekularac pushed out the call and Yilmaz flipped {10-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}. Sekularac flashed {10-Hearts}{10-Spades} as if to say, "I'm not scared to make big calls," though in this case it had proved to be wrong.

Gnatenko Won't Be Pushed Around

Level 6 : 200/400, 50 ante

Olexander Gnatenko opened preflop to 1,000 from the button before Ismet Sahin made it 2,500 in the small blind. Gnatenko came back over the top with a four-bet to 5,100 and Sahin thought for two minutes before folding with a frown. Gnatenko showed the {9-Diamonds}.
