Cajelais Cruising

Erik Cajelais is cruising right now and nothing seems to be fazing him in the slightest. He's picking up pots regularly and looks like a man who could go all the way here in Cyprus.

We just caught him in a hand over on Table 6 where the board read {6-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{2-Diamonds} and Cajelais had bet 25,000 from the big blind seat. Two to his left was Amirpasha Sadineyad and he made the call but after a brief pause Chino Rheem (in the hijack of the seven-handed table) folded.

The {3-Clubs} river saw both players check and Cajelais took down the pot with his {8-Spades}{6-Diamonds} and is now up to 360,000.

Per Drop

Level 15 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante
Per Ummer
Per Ummer

Per Ummer just had a lucky escape at the table but not in the poker sense of the word. We heard a large crack, then a bang and saw Ummer flat out on his back on the casino floor!

It appears part of his chair broke and left him sprawled out on the carpet, but thankfully he hasn't suffered any injuries; just a touch of bruised pride.

Cajelais Unloads the Clip

Erik Cajelais raised to 4,800 from early position and Andrey Shatilov called in the seat next to him to see a {7-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{6-Clubs} flop.

Cajelais fired 6,000 and the Russian called, the same pattern happened on the {K-Spades} only this time to the tune of 15,000.

The {6-Spades} on the river changed nothing and Cajelais thought for a minute before chucking out a bet of 33,000. Shatilov, slightly irked, was not a fan of this move but elected to make the call.

Cajelais flipped his cards, slightly frustrated, turning {10-Clubs}{8-Clubs} for ten-high and Shatilov regained some of those chips he'd lost to the Canadian earlier.

Nitsche Takes On Le

Level 14 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante
Dominik Nitsche
Dominik Nitsche

The action folded around to Tuan Le in the cutoff seat and he placed a white 5,000 chip over the betting line. Dominik Nitsche is not a player who gives up his button easily and after he checked out Le's stack, he made it 12,500 to play.

The first three community cards would not be out of place on a Valentine's Day card as it read {7-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{a-Hearts}. Le checked to Nitsche but the young German was not feeling the love and he bet 8,500. No sooner had his bet landed on the table, Le had folded.

A Table Of Doom Emerges

Level 14 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante

There is hardly a poker tournament that gets played where there is not at least one table that is designated the "Table Of Doom," and this event is no different.

Table 7 is currently the home to the following players:

  • Dominik Nitsche
  • Tuan Le
  • Oleksii Kovalchuk
  • Aubin Cazals
  • Manig Loeser

Rather them than me!

Fox Cracks Aces; Climbs Up The Counts

Stuart Fox
Stuart Fox

Stuart Fox is a rare breed in th WPT Merit Cyprus Classic, he's a British player who has chips to play with; 204,000 of them. However, he almost had much fewer but Lady Luck was shining down on him and helped him to crack the pocket aces of Oleg Lipkin.

It was Ran Ozar who opened the betting, making it 5,300 to play from the hijack. To his left was Fox and he flat-called the open but Alexey Makarov on the button squeezed to 15,300. Amazingly this was not the end of the betting as Oleg Lipkin moved all-in for 52,500 from the small blind. Lipkin's shove folded out the big blind and Azor but Fox came over the top and re-shoved! Makarov reluctantly folded and the hands were showndown.

Lipkin: {a-Spades}{a-Hearts}
Fox: {k-Clubs}{k-Hearts}

Fox was in a whole world of pain but that would soon turn to a world of delight as the flop came down {6-Clubs}{k-Spades}{10-Clubs}. The {4-Spades} turn kept Fox's set in front and when the river was the {2-Spades} it was game over for Lipkin and Fox flew up the chip counts.
