Wrap It Up

Flack's return to the felt looking good so far
Flack's return to the felt looking good so far
The 2010 WSOP Circuit Caesars Las Vegas Main Event kicked off today and 150 players ponied up the $5,000 buy-in to fend for the title. The defending champ was Justin Bonomo and he was here to give it a go at back-to-back titles. Unfortunately for him, he was ousted before day's end, ensuring that a new champion would be crowned.

Some of the other notables in attendance that failed to make it out of the day were Scott Seiver, Isaac Haxton, David Williams and Chau Giang. Both Giang and Williams fell in the last level of the night.

As it looks, Dan Casetta sits atop the overnight leaderboard with 168,700 chips. Hot on his heels is Randy Dorfman with 153,800. One of the best stories from today though comes with Layne Flack, who made his return to tournament poker after a long six months off the felt. Flack stayed in control of his table for most of the day and if it wasn't for a boat-over-boat confrontation with former PokerNews employee Anthony Yeh, Flack most likely would be the chip leader to end the day. Instead, he finished up with 109,400 -- good enough for a top-five spot.

Play resumes tomorrow at noon local time here in Las Vegas and the remaining players will look to trek onward. We'll see you right back here for all the coverage!

Giang Gets His Wish; Williams Follows Suit

New chip leader Randy Dorfman and the player on the button were going to war. Dorfman bet 7,000 on a flop of {Q-Clubs} {3-Diamonds} {10-Diamonds} and was called by the button. Dorfman followed with another 20,000 on the turn {6-Clubs}. His opponent moved in for roughly double and Dorfman quickly called. Each player had {A-?} {Q-?}.

But Chau Giang was also in the hand, having moved in for his last 1,100 pre-flop from early position. "I haven't looked at my cards yet," said Giang. "I don't want nothing. I want to go home." He opened {4-Hearts} {5-Hearts} for a straight draw, but the board bricked out {j-Spades} to give Giang his wish. He's out.

David Williams also hit the rail roughly two minutes after Giang.

Dorfman Rivers Fish

Fish ousted with the dirty river
Fish ousted with the dirty river
On a board of {4-Spades}{3-Spades}{2-Clubs}{3-Clubs}, Randy Dorfman fired 20,000 into his lone opponent Darryll Fish. Fish tanked for a little bit and then put all of his chips in, about 55,000 total. Dorfman only took a moment to call.

Dorfman held an overpair to the board with the {8-Hearts}{8-Spades}. Fish had flopped a straight with the {A-Clubs}{5-Clubs} and was in the lead going to the river.

The river was a dirty one, when the {3-Diamonds} hit the felt and put trips on board, giving Dorfman a full house. He had Fish covered and sent him packing. Dorfman now has about 170,000 chips and looks to be the new chip leader as we close in on the end of the day.

Flowers for Lamb

With about 10,000 chips total in his stack and blinds at 400 and 800, it was go-time for Ben Lamb. He opened from under the gun for 5,000, drawing some laughs from his opponents. Action passed to Randal Flowers, who made a just-bigger-than-minimum three-bet to 9,300.

"I think my hand is still good, so I'm going to just call," said Lamb, leaving himself 700 behind. "And I check the flop dark."

"I also check the flop dark," said Flowers.

"Then I check the turn dark!" said Lamb with a laugh. By this point the dealer had produced a flop of {K-Clubs} {10-Diamonds} {K-Hearts}. Flowers responded by also checking the turn before the dealer burned and turned the {5-Diamonds}.

"I'm all in dark," said Lamb, splashing his last 700 into the pot. "I call dark," replied Flowers. The {7-Spades} hit and they went to showdown.

Lamb: {J-Hearts} {J-Clubs}
Flowers: {9-?} {9-?}

"What a sick cooler," said Flowers with a laugh. He paid off the 700 to double Lamb up to about 21,000.

Alvarado Picks One Up

An early-position player limped and then JC Alvarado raised to 3,400. He was in the hijack seat and Gary Bolden flatted on the button. The limper also called.

The flop came down {Q-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{4-Spades} and the first player checked to Alvarado. He fired 6,200 and Bolden tank-folded. The next player tanked as well, but also folded. Alavrado picked up the pot and improved to 46,000 chips.

Yeh Doubles Through Flack

Anthony Yeh

Bryan Devonshire raised from under the gun to 1,800 and Layne Flack called. Anthony Yeh called as well and the three of them saw a flop of {A-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{3-Clubs}. Devonshire checked and Flack bet 3,000. Yeh flat-called in position and Devonshire folded.

The turn brought the {9-Diamonds} and Flack fired 7,500. Yeh tossed out a T10,000 chip and made the call.

The river paired the board with the {9-Clubs} and Flack fired a bet before Yeh moved all in. Flack quickly called.

Both players flopped sets and made full houses as Flack turned up the {3-Diamonds}{3-Hearts} and Yeh tabled the {8-Hearts}{8-Spades}. Yeh had the bigger and better house (on the felt, not in real life) and doubled up to 105,000 chips. Flack dropped back to 101,000.

Rush for O'Dwyer

Steve O'Dwyer just finished doubling up when he got an opponent to put all of his chips in on the turn of a board that read {A-Hearts}{K-Clubs}{7-Spades}{6-Spades} holding the {10-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}. O'Dwyer held the {A-Spades}{10-Spades}. The river completed the board with the {9-Hearts} and now O'Dwyer has about 80,000 chips. Not a bad rush in the last level.
