The clock has ticked its way down to 00:00, and Day 1 of the WSOP Circuit Council Bluffs is in the books.

Sixty-seven players showed up this morning for the big dance, and just over half of them have been sent packing. Among the notables who've already come and gone are Bernard Lee, Mclean Karr, Scott Buller, Jeremy Byrum, Bob Slezak, Tim Begley, and David Dicken.

Also eliminated were the wife halves of the two husband-wife duos: Michelle Hiers and Donna Bryan. The good news for the ladies is that their men are both still alive and kicking. David Hiers has been up and down today, and he bagged up 26,700 chips at the close of play. That's not bad, but Jeffrey Bryan can do better. After a nice rush late in the day, Bryan finished up with 108,200, and will carry the torch for the Bryans the rest of the way.

Official chip counts are still pending, but it appears that Jeff Banghart has locked up the overnight chip lead. The last count had him at 117,000, and that should put him at the top of the heap; there are a few guys clawing at his heels though, and the final numbers are still being tallied.

Action will pick back up with our 30 remaining runners tomorrow at noon. Until then, goodnight from Council Bluffs!

Angry Fold for Watkins

In a four-way limped pot, the flop came down {10-Spades} {7-Spades} {3-Hearts}. Jeff Banghart was first to act and checked to Va Shon "Julian Verse" Watkins. Watkins bet 1,600 before Lee Adams called from middle position. Harold Kruger was in the cutoff seat and folded before Banghart called as well.

The turn brought the {8-Clubs} and Banghart checked again. Watkins fired out 3,300 this time. Adams called and then Banghart raised to 10,000. Watkins took a moment before making the call. Adams took a few moments more, but folded.

The river came the {2-Hearts} and Banghart announced he was all in, putting Watkins at risk for his last 24,800. This move sent Watkins into the tank for a good few minutes. After asking the dealer to spread the pot, Watkins attempted to call the clock on himself, but the floor wouldn't allow it. Jeff Elseman helped Watkins out and called the clock for him. After about 30 more seconds, Watkins emphatically stood up and stormed away from his table while flipping up the {10-Diamonds} {8-Hearts} for top two pair. "God dammit!" he yelled as his iPod crashed to the floor.

Watkins took a few moments to himself before returning to the table and placing the ante in the pot for the next hand. Banghart is the new chip leader with around 120,000 chips.

Buller Was Full of It

Scott Buller - eliminated
Scott Buller - eliminated
Scott Buller moved all in over the top of a bet from Jeff Bryan. The flop read {5-Hearts} {5-Diamonds} {3-Clubs} at the time Buller made the move. It wasn't an easy call for Bryan, but he made it and the pot stood around 80,000 as the two players revealed their hands.

Showdown:
Buller: {K-?} {J-?}
Bryan: {Q-?} {Q-?}

"I need a king," said Bullar as he turned his hand over and stood up from his chair. The dealer burned and turned the {6-Hearts}. The river completed the board with the {10-Diamonds}, but was no help to Buller, eliminating him from the tournament.

Bryan scooped in the massive pot and now sits over 105,000 chips.

Back and Forth for Hale

Jesse Hale continues to run back and forth between the Championship Event and the PLO tournament that is going on in the adjacent room a few feet away. Hale has a pretty big stack in both tournaments and seems to be doing quite fine multi-tasking.

Recent Action

Some action quickly unfolded on multiple tables out on the tournament floor. In one hand, Casey Quinn moved his last few thousand into the middle preflop and was called by Jeff Banghart. Banghart held {A-Hearts} {3-Hearts} against Quinn's pocket fives. Banghart was able to flop an ace to eliminate Quinn from the tournament.

One table over, Jeff Bryan laid out a bet of 4,000 after the board read {Q-Spades} {Q-Hearts} {8-Hearts} {K-Spades} {9-Spades}. Drazen Ilich made the call and Bryan tabled {A-?} {Q-?} to take down the pot worth around 12,000 chips.

Then back over at Banghart's table, David Hiers moved all in preflop with pocket tens and was up against Harold Kruger's {A-Clubs} {J-Spades}. The board ran out {Q-Hearts} {9-Diamonds} {6-Diamonds} {4-Clubs} {Q-Clubs} giving Hiers the double-up.

The shorter stacks are really trying to move now with hopes of doubling up before the day concludes.

Kruger Gets Watkins This Time

Va Shon Watkins and Harold Kruger are at it again. We join their table as the two men are tangling heads up. The board shows {J-Hearts} {3-Diamonds} {2-Diamonds} {5-Hearts} {8-Diamonds}, and there is just over 15,000 already piled in the center of the table. Action is on Watkins, and he bets out 7,200.

"What is that, seventy-two?" asks Kruger. "I call that."

Watkins confidently tables {A-Spades} {4-Clubs} for the wheel.

"Flush," declares Kruger, as he opens up his {K-Diamonds} {Q-Diamonds}. With that, he takes a little chunk of his own chips back off of the online pro. Odds are there'll be plenty more chips exchanged between these two men as play progresses.

Final Level

The players have returned from the break with the green T25 chips removed from play. We're now in Level 7 and this will be the last level of the day. That's right, only 75 more minutes to go in Day 1.

Harold Kruger currently holds the biggest stack out of the remaining 36 players with about 135,000 chips. Both Joaquin Sosa and Jeff Banghart are closing in on the century mark as well.

Goodbye Greens

The clock has been paused one last time, and it's color-up time. The green T25 chips are being raced off, after which the players will take their final 10-minute break of the evening. We'll play through Level 7 or down to 27 players, whichever comes first.
