Break It Down
The first two hours went flying by, and we have reached our first break of the day.
The first two hours went flying by, and we have reached our first break of the day.
We caught up with the action on the turn, with Chris Bigler heads up in a 4,000 pot. The board read , and Bigler's opponent had a Pink T5,000 chip in front of him. Bigler responded by stacking the rest of his chips into a tower, and slid them forward. His opponent quickly called, and Bigler asked "aces?"
Bigler:
Opponent:
It wasn't aces, but Bigler was still behind his opponent's two pair. The river didn't improve either player, coming the , and Bigler got up from his chair. He said that the big pairs weren't working for him yesterday or today, and a frustrated Bigler made his exit just before our first break.

Christina Lindley called us over to tell us about a funny hand that she had with Dwyte Pilgrim that has led to Pilgrim getting a one round penalty.
The flop came down , and it was checked to Lindley, who bet out 800. Pilgrim raised it up to 2,400, and everyone else got out of the way. Lindley called, and the turn brought a non-club . Lindley checked called a bet of 4,000, and the river came the . Here is where things get interesting.
Lindley checked, and according to her, Pilgrim frustratingly checked, and tabled for a flopped flush. The problem is, Pilgrim didn't notice that he had made a straight flush on the river. Because he was the last to act, and checked with the nuts, he was given a one round penalty.
The whole table, including Pilgrim, got a laugh out of it, and he went off to serve his punishment. It was a tough river for Lindley, who later said she flopped a jack high flush.

Matt Affleck, who entered and busted yesterday, is back at it again today. However, we just saw him in a hand where he was caught with his hand in the cookie jar. We came to the table after the turn had been dealt on a board that read . Affleck was first to act, and he fired out 350. He was called by his only opponent, and the dealer put the on the river.
Affleck bet out 900 on the action card, and his opponent into the tank. After about 30 seconds of thought, he toss in a blue T1,000 chip, and Affleck grimaced, said nice call, and tabled for nine high. His opponent rolled over , and it was good enough to take the pot.
After that hand, Affleck is now down to 11,500.

We caught up with the action on the flop, which read . There was about 2,000 in the middle, and Baker had fired out 850 after being checked to. His only opponent in the pot check raised him to 2,200, and it didn't take Baker very long to release his hand.
We saw while counting his chips that Baker is already down one of his T5,000 chips, as he is sitting on about 12,000. He still has plenty of time to catch back up with the field though.

While making our rounds through the starting tables, we noticed that two in particular stood out for us. On one table, we have young pro Shawn Daniels, who is also joined by two guys who won rings here already at Rincon: Alex Masek, who won his record tying 5th ring in the opening event, and Mike Souza, who won the very next event.
At another table, we saw Circuit legend Dwyte Pilgrim keeping company with two ladies who know plenty about winning. Christina Lindley, who has over $125,000 in lifetime tournament earnings, is on his right, while Nancy Birnbaum, who won a ring here at Rincon, is a few seats to his left.
We will be sure to keep tabs on all these players as the day progresses.
