Holloway Tries To Make Day 1b Better Than Day 1a

PokerNews' own Chad Holloway had a rough go yesterday, but is right back in action today trying to right the ship. Just recently, he opened to 475 from middle position and found one call from the player in the hijack seat.

The flop came down {10-Spades}{3-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}, and Holloway fired 650. His opponent folded, and Holloway won the pot to move to 29,000 in chips.

Shortly after this, Holloway flopped trip jacks in a hand against an opponent who held an overpair with pocket queens. The money went all in on the flop, but Holloway's opponent backed into a straight and doubled up. Holloway was kicked back to 22,000 in chips.

Chi Town Chad Brown

Chad Brown
Chad Brown

According to his Twitter account, Chad Brown has been grinding at the WSOP-C here in Hammond since the start of the series. His hard work paid off yesterday - Brown finished second in Event #9, earning $9,920 for his efforts.

Today, Brown is trying to parlay his success into a deep Main Event run.

In a recent hand, Brown called a 600-chip raise from an opponent in early position, and the flop came {a-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}. The player made a continuation bet, Brown called, and the turn was the {6-Clubs}. Both players checked.

The {3-Spades} completed the board, and the player fired 1,200. Brown called, and the player turned over {a-Clubs}{10-Spades} for a pair of aces.

Brown mucked his hand, but is still very healthy with around 30,000 chips.

Julius Looking for More Hammond Success

Ryan Julius has had some success here in his local area, having won the Chicago Poker Classic Main Event for over $180,000 and placing 17th in the $10,000 World Series of Poker Circuit Regional Championship for $26,882 back in 2010. He couldn't find success yesterday on Day 1a, but is back for more action on Day 1b.

Action folded to the player on the button, and he raised to 450. Julius made the call from the big blind to see the flop come down {Q-Hearts}{J-Clubs}{8-Spades}. Julius checked, his opponent bet 450, and Julius called.

The turn was the {7-Spades}, and both players checked to see the {5-Diamonds} land on the river. Julius checked again, and his opponent bet 1,000. Julius folded and dropped back to 26,000 in chips.

Patel Puts Opponent to the Test

Hiren Patel (Day 1a)
Hiren Patel (Day 1a)

The flop, turn, and river had been dealt {7-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{a-Spades}{9-Spades}{2-Spades}. Hiren "Sunny" Patel was first to act, and pushed forward a stack of yellow T1,000 chips and orange T5,000 chips, putting his opponent all in.

His opponent tanked for the better part of two minutes, then flashed {a-}{j-} before mucking.

Patel mucked his hand facedown, and raked in the pot.

Mizrachi Eliminated

Michael Mizrachi
Michael Mizrachi

Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi's trip to Hammond only lasted about a half an hour into Level 3 here on Day 1b of the World Series of Poker Circuit event. He was just eliminated by Ghaleb Zayed on the following hand.

From under the gun, Zayed raised to 425. Mizrachi was next to act and made the call. Everyone else folded, prompting a {J-Spades}{5-Spades}{4-Diamonds} flop from the dealer. Zayed bet 425, and Mizrachi raised all in for a little under 4,000. Zayed quickly called with top set — {J-Diamonds}{J-Clubs} — to have Mizrachi's {8-Spades}{8-Clubs} in bad shape.

"I need six, seven," said Mizrachi in hopes of backing into a straight.

It wouldn't be as the turn came the {7-Diamonds} and river the {10-Hearts} to send him to the rail.

Mizrachi Back Down

And it's right back down for Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi as he's dropped back to 4,300 in chips following this next hand.

Mizrachi and an opponent saw the {A-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{6-Spades} flop for 375 each with Mizrachi in position. The first player checked, and Mizrachi bet 500. His opponent called.

The turn paired the board with the {A-Hearts}, and both players checked to see another board pair on the river when the {6-Hearts} landed. After the first player bet 2,000, Mizrachi raised to 5,000. The player made the call after a minute, and Mizrachi tabled the {3-Hearts}{3-Spades}. He was playing the board and no good against the {Q-Clubs}{J-Spades} for his opponent.
