Raymer Doubles

Level 14 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Greg Raymer
Greg Raymer

Greg Raymer led out for 10,000 on a flop of {7-Spades}{10-Hearts}{3-Hearts}. Jerry Barlow moved all in for 38,300, and Raymer immediately called.

Raymer: {a-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}
Barlow: {2-Spades}{2-Clubs}

The turn and river came {j-Hearts}, {a-Clubs} respectively, and Raymer doubled to 99,600 chips.

Barlow slipped to 91,000.

Cook Slips

Level 14 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Michael Cook
Michael Cook

A player opened to 4,200 in early position, Michael Cook called in position, and the dealer fanned {8-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}. The original raiser immediately fired 6,000, Cook quickly called, and the turn brought the {j-Spades}. The player fired another 10,000, and Cook instantly called again.

The {4-Spades} completed the board, and the player fired a third and final bullet worth 15,000. Cook snap-folded, and is now down to 150,000 chips.

Jacobson Drops a Few

Level 14 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Greg Jacobson
Greg Jacobson

Greg Jacobson opened with a raise from under the gun and had two callers from the blinds. The flop then came {10-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}, and after the small blind checked the big blind pushed all in for just under 16,000. Jacobson thought a moment then called, and the small blind stepped aside.

Jacobson showed {A-Spades}{K-Spades} and needed help to beat his opponent's {10-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}. But the turn was the {Q-Hearts} and the river the {3-Spades}, and Jacobson drops a few as we cross the midway point of Level 14.

Bell Slips, Doubles Back

Level 14 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Chris Bell
Chris Bell

Chris Bell had been up over 100,000 earlier today, but a gradual slide over the last few hours saw his stack shrink to just 13,600 when he just now open-raised all in from middle position.

It folded around to the small blind who checked his cards, counted out the calling chips, and set them forward. The big blind got out, and the players tabled their cards.

Bell showed {Q-Clubs}{J-Diamonds} and his opponent {A-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}, then the {K-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{J-Hearts} flop put Bell in front but also gave the small blind a gutshot to Broadway. The turn was the {6-Spades} and river the {8-Hearts}, and Bell remains alive with about 120 Day 1a players left.

"Loose Call"

Level 14 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

A player open-shoved for around 12,000 in middle position, and the action folded to Jerry Barlow in the big blind.

"Loose call," he said, splashing chips forward and tabling {7-Hearts}{6-Hearts}.

The all-in player exposed {q-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}.

The dealer burned one card, then spread {5-Spades}{8-Spades}{9-Clubs}, giving Barlow a straight. The all-in player could still survive with a ten or running chop cards, but the turn and river both brought deuces.

"Sorry man," Barlow offered. "That was just dumb luck."

Trotter Loses Race; Busts

Level 13 : 700/1,400, 200 ante

Chris Trotter fulfilled a lifelong dream today by being featured in the PokerNews Live Reporting blog, but unfortunately he was unable to survive Day 1a.

A few moments ago, he was all in and at risk preflop for roughly 25,000 with {3-Clubs}{3-Spades}. Jerry Barlow had him at risk with {k-Clubs}{q-Spades}.

"What do we need, Mr. Trotter?" someone asked him.

"To hold!" he responded, excitedly.

The {7-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{10-Hearts} flop was favorable for Trotter, but the {10-Spades} on the turn gave Barlow six extra outs to win the hand. The {q-Clubs} spiked on the river, giving Barlow a winning pair of queens, and Trotter shot backwards at the site of the card.

He quickly collected himself, and wished the table luck before exiting.

Barlow now sits with 120,000 chips.

Gowder on the Game

Level 13 : 700/1,400, 200 ante

Keith Gowder was just all in with his short stack and at risk with {A-Diamonds}{4-Spades} versus an opponent's {10-Spades}{10-Hearts}. "I'm way behind," he'd said when the other player called, then after seeing the tens he added "at least I have an over."

Then came the flop... {5-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}! "That'll work," Gowder cracked, and after two more cards he'd doubled up.

"Crazy ass game," he said as he stacked the chips. Then, as if to prove the maxim once more, he found himself reraising over a Bill Dixon open on the very next hand, then Dixon called. Dixon had {A-Spades}{K-Clubs}, while Gowder had {K-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}.

The community cards came {4-Spades}{Q-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{2-Hearts}, and suddenly Gowder has gone from the brink of elimination to about an average stack. Meanwhile, Bill Dixon tumbles from the top spot though still has a healthy number of chips.
