As we enter the last three levels and final two hours of play for the night, we're starting to keep an eye on the big stacks.
Matthew Emmel continues to chip up and comes back from the break with 145,000. David Nicholson just won a pot to start Level 13 to push his stack up close to 150,000. And Greg Jacobson had been flirting with the 200,000-chip mark not long ago, but now sits with a little less than 170,000.
Meanwhile the jovial Bill Dixon has been busily collecting chips since the dinner break to build a stack of about 170,000 — a good reason to smile!
Claudia Crawford opened to 2,500 from under the gun, a player on the button called, and Larry Gurney three-bet to 8,000 from the big blind. Crawford and the player on the button called, and the dealer fanned . Gurney and Crawford both checked, and the player on the button fired 6,000.
Gurney check-raised to 15,000, Crawford moved all in for 31,200, and the player on the button folded. Gurney immediately called.
Gurney:
Crawford:
Neither the turn nor the river was a club, but Crawford won the pot. The on the turn gave her an open-ended straight draw, and the spiked on the river.
"I felt like gambling," Crawford admitted, then when asked, she blurted out her signature "Roll Tide!"
A short-stacked player open-shoved for 13,000 from early position, two players called, and Christopher Homan re-shoved for 39,500 from the blinds. The first caller called once again, and the third player tanked for quite some time before folding.
Short Stack:
Caller:
Homan:
The flop gave Homan the lead, and he held as the turn and river came , respectively. Homan now has 105,000 chips, while the short-stacked player hit the rail.
With the board showing , a player in early position checked, John Giancotti of Elon, North Carolina bet, and his opponent called. The river then put a fourth club on the board, coming , and Giancotti's opponent checked again.
Giancotti hesitated for a moment, then decided it better this time to check behind as well. He turned over for queens, and when his opponent showed for the nuts the pot was pushed his way.
