Ferguson Eliminates 'Tuna' Lund

We noticed the former chair of Hans 'Tuna' Lund was vacant after the players returned from break, and we also noticed that Chris Ferguson's chip stack had climbed to just under 100,000.

After a brief investigation (and more or less putting two and two together), we were able to confirm that 'Jesus' eliminated Hans Lund from the tournament. Ferguson's A-K held up against Lund's A-Q in a pre-flop all in confrontation, which resulted in Lund's elimination from the tournament.

Lee Eliminates Cooper

Mike Cooper of San Fransisco, CA moved all in over the top of Drew Farrar's 4,500 pre-flop raise and was visibly unnerved when Frank Lee declared that he too was all in; Lee had Cooper covered. Farrar opted to get out of the way and Lee and Cooper were heads up to the flop.

Cooper tabled {9-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} and Lee turned over {K-Spades}{K-Clubs} for a commanding lead in the hand. The board filled out {A-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{A-Clubs} and Lee's kings held up to take down the pot. After the hand, Farrar told the table he folded A-K and would've made trip aces had he called.

With the win, Lee stacked up well over 125,000 in chips and is currently the tournament's top stack.

Beisner Eliminated

Matthew Beisner started the day with 61,800 in chips, good for 6th place on the leaderboard, but just sent the last of them to Frank Lee after a hand that saw Beisner all in pre-flop.

Beisner tabled {A-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds} while Lee produced {A-Clubs}{K-Hearts} for a slight lead over Beisner's hand. The flop came a very intriguing {K-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}, giving Lee top pair and Beisner the nut flush draw.

Desperate calls for a diamond came up short as the board filled out {8-Hearts}, {3-Hearts} and Lee's pair of kings would hold up to win the pot.

'TNT' Doubles Through Ferguson

Toan 'TNT' Nguyen open shoved from mid-position for 11,000 and Chris Ferguson called from the cutoff, holding {A-Hearts}{9-Hearts}; Nguyen tabled {K-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}.

"King coming, king coming" Toan said as he awaited his fate. While it wasn't in the form of a king, help arrived on the flop, as Toan spiked the {10-Diamonds} to take the lead in the hand. The turn and river blanked out {Q-Clubs}, {6-Hearts} and the man they call TNT doubled up to just under 25,000 in chips.

Toan easily has the largest cheering section of all of the players in the room. Another player at his table even remarked that they need to find some pom-poms . . .

Ferguson Active Early

Chris Ferguson has shown us another side of his poker game today, getting involved in a number of small pots early and often.

On one particular hand, with the board showing {Q-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}, the action checked around to Dennis Lane who fired out a 5,000 bet; Ferguson made the call holding {A-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}.

The turn brought the {J-Hearts} and Ferguson checked to Lane who rapped the table, opting to see a free river card. The last card off the deck was the {9-Spades} and again, both players checked. Ferguson then turned over his hand revealing a pair of jacks and Lane tossed his into the muck.

AAron kAnter

Pardon my utter disregard for good grammar in the title of this post, but I couldn't resist . . .

The first two capital letter 'A's' represent the pocket aces Kanter held when he made it 4,200 to go from middle position; his bet received one caller - the player to his immediate right who'd limped in before him.

The capital 'A' in "kAnter" represents the ace Kanter spiked on the {K-Diamonds}{A-Hearts}{5-Hearts} flop, giving him the mortal nuts. Kanter's opponent knuckled the table, passing the first action to Kanter, who fired out a 4,300 bet. His opponent gave up on the flop, sheepishly tossing his cards into the middle.

Kanter is off to a very good start today, and is fast approaching Kevin Vanderbeek at the top of the leaderboard.

Sisson's Nine Lives

If you followed our Day 1 coverage late last night, you might recall a desperately short-stacked player who received a one-round F-bomb penalty that left him with just 2,000 in chips.

That player was Rudy Sisson of Sacramento, CA. Rudy started the day as the tournament's short stack and found himself all in quite early this afternoon, holding pocket fours against chip leader Kevin Vanderbeek's {6-Spades}{7-Spades}.

By the turn, things weren't looking good for Rudy, as the board read {J-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}. Before the river, Vanderbeek yelled out, "No seven!" - the only card Sisson could hit to stay alive. Then . . . presto! The {7-Hearts} fell off on the end, giving Sissom a straight and new hope to stretch his Day 2 a bit longer.

Sylvester "Vesty" Geoghegan had this to say to Sisson after the hand: "You're like bubble gum stuck to the shoe . . . impossible to get rid of!"
