Howard Lederer
Howard Lederer
We pick up this hand on the flop, where a battle of the blinds is unfolding.

The board reads {5-Clubs} {Q-Diamonds} {4-Hearts}. The small blind checks over to Howard Lederer, "The Professor," in the big blind. He puts out a pot-sized bet. His opponent cuts out chips for a raise, but Howard slows him down.

"You know there's not a single hand you can raise with, right?" This apparently works, as the player decides to simply call the bet.

The turn is the {K-Spades}, and now the small blind fires away, moving his remaining stack all in. Lederer makes the call, and the hands are shown down:

Small blind: {9-Hearts} {8-Spades} {7-Clubs} {6-Hearts}
Lederer: {4-Clubs} {4-Spades} {5-Hearts} {6-Spades}

The river fails to make a winning straight for the at-risk player, as the {A-Clubs} seals the deal for Lederer with a set of fours.

Katja Thater Dismissed

Katja Thater Eliminated
Katja Thater Eliminated
Katja Thater has just been knocked out of play shortly before the last level of Day 1.

We picked up the hand on the flop, with the board reading {7-Hearts} {5-Clubs} {4-Diamonds}. Thater bet out 2,000 and her opponent called.

The turn was the {A-Hearts}. Thater fired again with 4,800, and was called yet again.

The river was the {8-Diamonds}, and Thater moved all in, only to be called down once more.

Thater turned over {A-Spades} {K-Spades} {K-Hearts} {J-Spades}, but her opponent had made two pair with his {A-Clubs} {7-Diamonds} {Q-Diamonds} {3-Diamonds}.

As she stood to exit, the winning player seemed halfway apologetic: "I didn't have a great hand, but I was gambling."

The River Drowns Jesus

Chris "Jesus" Ferguson Eliminated

First in from the button, Chris "Jesus" Ferguson opened it up with a pot raise to 1,400. Max Pescatori pushed back from the small blind, making it 3,200 total. Ferguson called.

The two men saw the dealer spread the flop: {J-Diamonds} {2-Spades} {10-Hearts}. Pescatori bet out 4,000, and Ferguson called all in for his last 1,450. After the betting was complete, the turn and river were the {K-Hearts} and the {7-Hearts}.

Ferguson had {K-Clubs} {Q-Spades} {J-Clubs} {5-Diamonds}, making him kings up. Pescatori had that beaten though. His {8-Clubs} {9-Diamonds} {10-Clubs} {J-Spades} made a straight on the river, and sent Ferguson walking.

Bounty for Bonomo

Justin Bonomo
Justin Bonomo
With two players limping in in front, Justin Bonomo raised it up to 2,400. The big blind called all in, and the rest of the table folded.

Bonomo turned over {A-Clubs} {A-Hearts} {8-Clubs} {3-Spades}, and his opponent tabled {Q-Diamonds} {3-Diamonds} {7-Hearts} {3-Hearts}.

The board came out {K-Hearts} {6-Clubs} {10-Clubs} {5-Diamonds} {8-Diamonds}, neglecting to offer any help to the all-in player, and chipping Bonomo up to around 27,500.

A Good Read

A player at Joe Hachem's table opened the betting with a pot raise to 1,400. Hachem came over the top with a reraise to 4,800. The player went into the tank for several minutes, before getting some advice from the only source that mattered at the moment.

Hachem politely told him, "Let it go. We'll fight again."

After another minute or two, his opponent did indeed follow his recommendation and mucked his cards.

"Which ones do you want to see?" Hachem asked him.

"The aces," replied his opponent.

Joe Hachem casually flipped over two of his cards: {A-Hearts} {A-Clubs}

Johnny Chan Hooks One

Johnny Chan
Johnny Chan
We pick up this hand on the flop with Johnny Chan in a heads-up contest against an unknown at his table. The board shows {9-Hearts} {6-Clubs} {4-Diamonds}. The two men get all their chips into the middle, Chan with {J-Clubs} {J-Diamonds}, and his opponent with {9-Diamonds} {10-Diamonds}. The turn and river are the {5-Hearts} and the {8-Clubs}, and Johnny Chan doubles up to approximately 20,000.

Andras Karkus Eliminated

From early position, Stephen McKinney opened with a raise, and Andras Karkus reraised from the button. McKinney called, and the two men watched the flop bring {6-Spades} {K-Hearts} {9-Spades}.

Action was checked over to Karkus, who moved all in for his last 17,000. McKinney made the call with {7-Clubs} {8-Clubs}. Karkus showed down the big overpair, {A-Diamonds} {A-Hearts}.

Trouble found Karkus straight away on the turn though, as the {10-Spades} made his opponent a straight, and left him drawing dead. The river was an unimportant {K-Diamonds}, and McKinney raked in a big pot to take the presumed chip lead with 85,000.

Andras Karkus, meanwhile, has exited to try again some other day.

Another T6 Pro Heads Out

Anthony Châtelain Eliminated
Anthony Châtelain Eliminated
Anthony Châtelain has been knocked out of the field. He was all in preflop for his remaining 2,100 chips and got action from the player in the big blind, who held {3-Clubs} {3-Spades}. Châtelain tabled {Q-Clubs} {9-Clubs}.

The board gave him some chances but never fully connected with him, as it ran out {K-Spades} {10-Diamonds} {6-Hearts} {10-Clubs} {10-Hearts}. Châtelain is out of here as we draw closer to the end of Day 1.
