It's Like Christmas for Kristen

Kristen Jonkman survives a preflop all-in with {K-Spades}{10-Hearts} against her opponent's {Q-Hearts}{J-Diamonds} -- she hits the king on the flop for good measure and doubles up her woefully short stack to around 7,000.

Then a few hands later, she has a spot of good luck when an opponent bets 2,500 and then calls Kristen's 6,400 total all-in bet -- the opponent is holding {10-Clubs}{Q-Spades} but Kristen has picked up {K-Spades}{K-Hearts}, which holds up all the way to the river of the {J-Clubs}{J-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{3-Spades}{7-Hearts} board.

The Bansi Plays a Marching Tune

After struggling the entire day, rarely threatening the chip leaders, last year's bracelet winner Praz Bansi has finally exited at the hands of Steven Shanks. Normally you'd struggle to report a 7-2 versus K-K encounter without raising a sneaky rye smile, but in Praz's defense, he was pushing a short-stack from the small blind, and rather unfortunate to find the initial raiser with such a strong hand.

Although the Brit stumbled upon a ray of hope with a flopped flush draw, it failed to emerge as the raggy board supplied Shanks with the pot, and Bansi the door. Shanks now on 29,000.

Notable Exits

Young British high-flier Stuart Rutter is out, running his A-J into A-Q preflop and failing to improve.

Another early chip leader who has kicked his tournament bucket and headed most likely for the bar is JC Tran, although details are currently lacking concerning the manner of his exit.

Brit Watch

Sadly, there appear to only be two British players that I know of still battling away in this event (we really don't possess the best of records over here), Praz Bansi with 8,500 and 2008 Irish Open champion Neil Channing with 7,000. How come you Americans are so dominant? What's the secret? I demand to know!... please.

Great Scott

Since doubling up with that flush a few posts back, Scott Seiver has transformed into a hyper-aggressive raising machine -- he's upped his stack to 50,000 in the past few hands without once even seeing a flop. Yikes.

Eugene Todd Skewered by Keshish-Kebab

Eugene Todd was involved briefly in a massive 46,000 pot that eventually went to a newly-unearthed player in Anthony Keshish. The flurry of action started under the gun, with a preflop raise to 1,800 being called by both Keshish and Todd, the latter of whom was playing from the button.

Facing a continuation bet of 7,000 on a {3-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}{9-Clubs} flop, Keshish pushed all in for 16,200, only for Eugene to concede his hand moments later. The under-the-gun player made the call and we had a showdown.

With Keshish's pocket threes in dominating shape against his opponent's A-Q, he simply had to avoid a potential runner-runner outdraw, which he did indeed do, the {10-Spades} turn and {6-Clubs} river causing no change.

As a result, Keshsish jumps up to 46,000, whilst Todd drops to 12,200.

Levi-Tation

A full double-up and a bonus short stack for David Levi.

He limped in early position, and a gentleman two seats to his left went all in for a mere 1,800 total. The big blind called, and called again when Levi also moved in for a total of 4,200.

Short Stack: {J-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}
Big Blind Serial Caller: {8-Clubs}{9-Clubs}
David Levi: a sneakily played {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}

Board: an incredibly exciting but ultimately decisive {7-Hearts}{9-Spades}{2-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}, leaving Mr Short Stack busted and David Levi-tating on 14,200.

A Close Schaef

Joyful a-Brandon
Joyful a-Brandon
Mr Opponent (name unknown, but I feel a title is polite) raised the pot preflop. Mr Brandon Schaefer reraised the pot. Mr Opponent went over the top of him, and Brandon called.

Brandon Schaefer: {10-Diamonds}{10-Spades}
Mr Opponent: {A-Hearts}{A-Spades}

Board: the outdraw-tastic {3-Spades}{6-Spades}{10-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}

Mr Opponent indignantly busted and Brandon is up to 23,000 as a result.

Joe Must Go

Joe Jacoby has hit the rail, shoving on a 10-J-3 flop with J-Q and finding himself in excellent shape against his opponent's A-10 -- until the ace on the river sent him packing.
