Ready To Resume

The remaining 162 players are now trundling back into the cardroom after a well-deserved break and shall be resuming play in approximately five minutes' time.

Monster Pre-Dinner Pot

Dennis Wamsley must have thought Christmas had arrived early when he limped into a multi-way pot only to flop a straight with {10-Clubs}{7-Spades} on an {8-Spades}{9-Clubs}{J-Hearts} board. Even better was that both of his opponents had a piece of the pot too, one player holding {J-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} and another {8-Clubs}{8-Hearts}. All three players pushed their chips in on the flop quicker than a jet-propelled whippet, only for Wamsley to take it down on the non-full-house-filling {A-Hearts} turn and {5-Spades} river.

Wamsley now on splendid 37,000 as a result.

Fearing his Opponents

One man who could run well today given the right sequence of cards is recent Irish Open winner Neil Channing. He was recently the subject of a heated forum debate in which he was said to have offended a fellow player, and going on a loose description from the internet, Neil feared that that player might actually be sitting at his table today. "I'm not as tough as I look," joked Neil. "I'm as weak as I look," I replied.

Fortunately for Neil, said nemesis wasn't seated next door, and Neil, along with 10,000 in chips, was allowed to live another day.

It's Like a Pokercoaster

JC Tran was on his way back up...

He limped from the cutoff and then called the button's raise to 1,200. He checked the {A-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{2-Clubs} flop, and when the button bet 3,000 he moved in for around 7,000 total. The button called.

Button: {A-Hearts} {A-Spades}
JC Tran: {5-Clubs} {6-Clubs}

Nothing further of interest on the turn or river, and JC had Tran-sformed his stack into 22,400.

-------

But after the next hand, he was back down to 5,500. Faced with a king-high flop, JC bet the pot. His opponent on the cutoff made it all in for 11,500, and JC called with K-Q. His opponent was holding A-K, and no miracle queen on the turn or river put JC right back down at the bottom end of the chip-stack hierarchy.

Life's a Grind

former EPT winner Brandon
former EPT winner Brandon
Brandon Schaeffer, who is currently on a below-par 9,000, is finding life tough today. "It's been a grind today, snoops," he complains. "Every day's a grind. Brutal."

Clearly finding pot-limit a struggle, Brandon continues, "There's a lot of folding in pot-limit."

"You could always fold your way to victory," I reply, in a vain attempt to boost his morale. "As long as you don't fold the last hand."

Chack-Fold

... And as soon as David Singer eliminated Jan Von Halle, as if giving something back to the poker gods, he immediately donated a chunky pile of chips to Andy Philachack.

Singer raised it up to 1,100 preflop, and Philachack called. Singer fired out 1,800 on the {3-Spades}{3-Clubs}{7-Hearts} flop, and again, Philachack called.

Singer backed off a little and check-called Philachack's 3,000 bet on the {9-Clubs} turn, and then backed off even further, simply check-folding to Philachack's 7,300 bet. Philachack, that great check-o-phile, showed pocket sevens for the flopped full house.

Flying the Flag

There is a British contingent still flying the flag over here in this $1,500 Pot-Limit Hold'em Freezeout, but sadly it's a little thin on numbers. Whilst Martin Green has been spotted with around 11,000 in chips, we are also blessed with the presence of last year's bracelet winner, Praz Bansi, who is hovering around average with 9,500. One of the UK's finest exports, Praz has a number of successes in his homeland and is one for our across-the-pond friends to keep a firm eye on.
