Play Consolidates

With only ten players remaining, play has consolidated to one ten-handed table. We will play until one more elimination occurs, at which point tomorrow's (today's?) final table will be set.

Shawn Buchanan Eliminated in 11th Place ($53,721)

Shawn Buchanan - 11th Place
Shawn Buchanan - 11th Place
Shawn Buchanan came up just short of the final table in today's event. He checked a flop of {J-Hearts} {9-Clubs} {10-Hearts} to Greg Hurst, who bet 110,000. Buchanan raised all in for 20,000 more, and Hurst quickly called. He had a big draw, showing {A-Hearts} {Q-Hearts} {10-Spades} {9-Diamonds} for two pair with a straight draw and the nut flush draw. Buchanan opened {J-Spades} {10-Clubs} {7-Clubs} {6-Hearts} for a bigger two pair and smaller straight draw. The turn and river were both hearts, {8-Hearts} and {9-Hearts}, to make Hurst the nut flush. He chips up to 740,000 and eliminates Buchanan, who will collect $53,721.

Josh Arieh Eliminated in 12th Place ($53,721)

Josh Arieh - 12th Place
Josh Arieh - 12th Place
Moments after tripling back into contention, Josh Arieh found himself with just 75,000 in chips and very severely in the danger zone. He picked his spot and moved them all in preflop on the last hand, holding {K-Hearts} {9-Hearts} {8-Diamonds} {4-Clubs}. Greg Hurst made the call from the big blind, getting a discounted price to play. He tabled {Q-Spades} {Q-Diamonds} {3-Hearts} {3-Clubs}.

The board frowned on Arieh, coming down {Q-Clubs} {6-Clubs} {5-Hearts} {4-Hearts} {9-Diamonds}. Unable to get over the hump, Arieh shipped the last few of his chips to Hurst, shook hands with the table, and quickly departed out the side door.

Josh Arieh had been our leader for the vast, vast majority of the tournament, and for a long time it appeared that he might take it coast-to-coast. Something happened after the players returned from dinner though, and Arieh could get nothing going. He has steadily bled chips for the last six hours, and eventually ran out entirely. For his hard work, he will take home more than $50,000... but from the look on his face as he left, it's not exactly the target he was shooting for.

Big Stacks Go to War

With 125,000 chips in the pot preflop, Michael Mizrachi and Billy "The Croc" Argyros went to a flop of {7-Clubs} {4-Clubs} {2-Hearts} with two very deep stacks. A series of raises put Mizrachi all in against Argyros.

Mizrachi: {K-Diamonds} {K-Clubs} {9-Clubs} {4-Spades}
Croc: {A-Hearts} {10-Spades} {7-Hearts} {7-Spades}

The Croc flopped a set of sevens against Mizrachi's king-high flush draw and overpair. The flush draw filled on the turn, and again on the river, with the {3-Clubs} and {5-Clubs}. That doubled Mizrachi up to 1.3 million and dropped Argyros back down to about 700,000.

Arieh All In

Our former chip leader, Josh Arieh, has been on a massive downswing for several hours now. In the recent hands, he has been whittled all the way down to the bottom of the totem pole, just 115,000 chips. Making his stand, Arieh just moved all in for those remaining chips and got called in two places, from Shawn Buchanan and David Benefield. After Arieh was all in, the two remaining players checked the action down to the end.

The board ran out {J-Hearts} {9-Diamonds} {3-Clubs} {9-Spades} {A-Hearts}. Arieh turned over {A-Diamonds} {Q-Clubs} {4-Spades} {3-Spades}, and his two pair was the winner. With that, he triples himself up to around 350,000 after dragging in a sorely-needed pot.

Arieh Short

It's been a complete reversal of fortune for Josh Arieh. He spent the better part of two days atop the leaderboard, only to see his chips and his chance at the final table slipping away from him in the post-dinner play of Day 2.

On a flop of {A-Hearts} {Q-Diamonds} {2-Clubs}, Billy "The Croc" Argyros bet 55,000. Arieh called, then called again on the {6-Clubs} turn when Argyros bet 140,000. The {9-Spades} fell on the river, and Argyros made what looked like a value bet of 100,000. Arieh called a third time.

Argyros opened {A-Spades} {K-Hearts} {4-Spades} {3-Diamonds}, showing just top pair. Arieh couldn't beat it and mucked his hand. With that pot, Argyros is up to 1.5 million and Arieh is left with a mere 115,000.

Jimmy Tran Eliminated in 13th Place ($44,767)

Jimmy Tran - 13th Place
Jimmy Tran - 13th Place
Josh Arieh opened up a can of worms with a raise to 60,000. Jimmy Tran made the call, and action came around to Billy "The Croc" Argyros. He reraised to 260,000. Arieh called, and Tran followed suit, all in for his last 126,000.

The flop came {A-Spades} {J-Clubs} {5-Clubs}. The Croc bet out 240,000, and Arieh reluctantly folded. With the betting complete, the hands were turned over:

Tran: {10-Hearts} {J-Spades} {Q-Diamonds} {K-Diamonds}
Argyros: {K-Hearts} {K-Clubs} {Q-Clubs} {J-Hearts}

Jimmy Tran was all in and needing some help to stave off elimination. No help came though. In fact, the {8-Clubs} peeled off on the turn, making Argyros an unbeatable flush. "Wrap it up, buttercup!" came the cheer from The Croc, now uninterested in the river card. He eliminated Jimmy Tran, who slammed his cards down on the table and walked towards the exit. He scores a 13th-place finish, and will take home almost $45,000.
