Smyth Takes One Off of Pham

On a flop of {10-Spades} {2-Clubs} {3-Hearts}, Kido Pham bet 40,000. Marty Smyth, who had checked the action to Pham, thought and then called. Both players checked through the {8-Spades} turn. On the river {10-Clubs}, Smyth checked a third time. Pham took that as his cue to bet 144,000, but Smyth made the call and tabled the winning hand: {A-Clubs} {A-Diamonds} {6-Clubs} {3-Diamonds}. His double-suited aces didn't make anything better than two pair, aces and tens, but upon seeing the hand, Pham mucked his own.

There was some smack-talk between the two after Smyth picked off the bluff. We'll keep an eye on it to see how it develops.

The Croc Controls the Cards

Billy "The Croc" Argyros raised first in, making it 40,000 to play. Action passed around to Jimmy Tran, and he reraised to 120,000. The Croc moved all in for about 165,000 total, and Tran made the call. The cards are turned up:

Argyros: {A-Hearts} {K-Clubs} {Q-Spades} {7-Hearts}
Tran: {A-Clubs} {J-Hearts} {6-Clubs} {6-Hearts}

The flop created quite a commotion from the players and spectators, coming out {Q-Diamonds} {6-Diamonds} {Q-Clubs}. Tran flopped his full house, but Argyros wasn't done yet. He stood up and yelled at the board, "Seven! Give me a seven and it's over!"

Turn: {7-Spades}

Argyros grabbed the lead back, and left Tran drawing to the last remaining six in the deck. No luck for him though; the {A-Spades} ripped off on fifth street, improving Croc even further to queens full of aces. He snagged a much-needed double-up and now sits with 350,000. Tran, meanwhile, has traded places with Argyros, and has 175,000 left to play with.

Eddy Scharf Eliminated in 17th Place ($35,814)

Eddy Scharf made it all the way to the final two tables, but that is where his tournament ends. He moved all in preflop for 59,000, only to see Billy "The Croc" Argyros raise to 170,000 and Shawn Buchanan call all in behind hiim for 115,000. Buchanan's {J-Spades} {10-Hearts} {9-Spades} {8-Diamonds} wound up besting Scharf's naked kings and Argyros' suited ace and middle cards when the board came {Q-Clubs} {10-Spades} {9-Hearts} {10-Diamonds} {2-Clubs} to make Buchanan a full house. He chips up to 280,000.

For his part, Scharf exits to a nice payday of $35,814.

Rino Mathis Eliminated in 18th Place ($35,814)

Before the flop, Rino Mathis moved all in for his last 40,000 chips from the cutoff seat, holding {A-Diamonds} {J-Diamonds} {3-Hearts} {4-Spades} . Kido Pham, riding the tall stack, made the call with {7-Diamonds} {8-Spades} {9-Clubs} {10-Clubs}. It was heads up to the board, with Mathis fighting for his tournament life.

The board ran sour for him though. It came {5-Spades} {6-Spades} {7-Hearts} {5-Diamonds} {K-Spades}. Both players flopped their straights, but Pham's was the big one, and he removes Rino Mathis from the field in 18th place. For his work over the last three days, Mathis will pick up more than $35,000.

Dario Alioto Eliminated in 19th Place ($28,651)

Dario Alioto - 19th Place
Dario Alioto - 19th Place
Peter Jetten raised from middle position to 42,000. Dario Alioto reraised to 150,000. Jetten put in the third raise, and Alioto called all in.

Alioto: {K-Hearts} {Q-Clubs} {J-Clubs} {6-Hearts}
Jetten: {A-Hearts} {A-Diamonds} {8-Clubs} {4-Hearts}

Alioto was in pretty rough shape, up against Jetten's suited aces with a fairly ragged hand. The flop came {8-Spades} {J-Diamonds} {Q-Spades} to make top two pair for Alioto, but the turn and river came {10-Diamonds} {8-Diamonds} to make trip eights for Jetten. He dragged the pot and increased his chip count to about 860,000. Alioto took his payout slip for $28,651 and exited the Amazon Room through the side door.

Len Ashby Eliminated in 20th Place ($28,651)

Len Ashby got his remaining chips into the pot preflop in the first hand after break. Michael Mizrachi ended up being his lone opponent, and was seeking to play the role of executioner.

Mizrachi: {K-Spades} {Q-Clubs} {10-Spades} {5-Clubs}
Ashby: {A-Clubs} {Q-Spades} {10-Diamonds} {2-Diamonds}

The board came out {8-Hearts} {5-Spades} {2-Clubs} {8-Diamonds} {4-Spades}, and The Grinder's small piece of that was the best. His pair of fives along with the eights on board was good enough to win him the pot, and eliminated Len Ashby in 20th place.
