Get to Paris via the River

Bryan Paris has won a nice pot after a raised pot was checked all the way down to the river leaving us with a {A-Spades}

board. Paris, sandwiched between the aggressor and a caller, bet 2,600 and received two calls.

He tabled {3-Diamonds}

for a rivered set and the pot putting him up to 30,000.

PokerNews.nl's Dimitri Tholen raised to 900 from the SB when action folded around to him. The BB thought for a while, then called to see a {10-Hearts}

flop. The action went check-check, so it went straight to the {A-Diamonds}

where Tholen bet 1,400, forcing his opponent to fold.

He then lifted his cards to show me {7-Hearts}

!! Different class.

He's well known for it and sometimes it plays to his advantage - Phil Helmuth waited until 20 minutes before the end of level four before making an appearance today. It didn't work out for the Poker Brat, as not long into level six Hellmuth was out. Probably off to play the $10,000 Limit Championship event.

Making Your Own Luck

You hear a lot of bad beat stories about players who always lose flips (lost one for a Main Event seat last night BTW!) and sixty-forties, etc. They're always bemoaning their luck, but the problem is that a lot of them play too tight and get too low, so they have to take on these situations to stay alive.

Bryan Paris is not one of these players. Sitting with {10-Clubs}

, a hand that a lot of players would fold to a raise and three-bet. Paris decided to four-bet out of the blinds after witnessing the action in front of him. It worked against the initial raiser, but the second player moved all in with {A-Spades}

. Paris was committed and called all in.

Sometimes the willingness to 'play poker' brings in a certain amount of luck and this time it brought a {8-Clubs}

flop for a straight flush for Paris. He's up to 19,000 as a result of his stroke of good fortune.

Lost His Way

Adam Latimer came wondering past my table just after we came back from break. I thought it was to say hello to a fellow Brit, but it was because he was lost. Latimer has just won a $20,000 sponsorship package through Neil Channing's new venture, but this is his first time in Las Vegas. His table broke in a another room just before break, so he dumped his chips and went off for 20 minutes. The Amazon room seems vast when you first come here, so it was quite easy to understand how he lost his way upon his return. With the help of the floor staff, he managed to find his way back to his seat.

His navigation skills improved though, as he had no trouble in finding his way back to my table again to collect the half eaten sub he accidentally left here. I'm hungry too!

Dennis Phillips and Young Pham were involved in a pot that had reached the river, giving us a {A-Clubs}

board. All I know is that Phillips was all in for 4,400, which seemed to be a big bet for the size of the pot.

Phillips and Pham were chatting jovially as the latter made his decision. "Show me jack-nine," concluded Pham as he called.
