Old School Gets The Better of New School

Doyle Brunson raised the button before Shaun Deeb popped it up from the small blind. Brunson made the call and they took a flop of {K-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{2-Spades}.

Deeb led out with a bet and Brunson flat-called. The turn was a repeater {2-Hearts} and Deeb checked, Brunson bet and Deeb called.

The madness started on the river when the {A-Hearts} landed and Deeb led out with a bet. Brunson raised before Deeb put in a three-bet. Brunson was done yet, he put in a fourth bet as Deeb sighed and made the call.

Brunson tabled {K-Spades}{K-Diamonds} for a full house, kings full of deuces, to collect a huge pot. He's up to 115,000 as Deeb slips to 35,000.

Deeb Drops

One of our overnight big stacks Shaun Deeb has taken a hit -- he's down to a below average 58,000, his lowest point since level two yesterday.

Lars Loses

Sami "LarsLuzak" Kelopuro is busto after Annie Duke picked up {A-?} {10-?} two hands in a row.

Duke raised from the button and got looked up by Kelopuro in the small blind to see a {K-?} {J-?} X flop. Kelopuro bet out, and Duke called. The {Q-?} on the turn made Duke the Broadway straight and the {8-Clubs} on the river failed to pair the board or anything like that -- a shame for Kelopuro, as he was holding pocket kings. Yikes.

The next hand Duke found{A-?} {10-?} again and she and Kelopuro saw an {A-?} {K-?} {J-?} flop. Kelopuro's {A-?} {2-?} was never really going anywhere, even less so after a queen came down to make Duke her second Broadway straight in as many hands. Oops.

Minieri Left Hanging

Dario Minieri has eliminated an opponent when his pocket fours held on against a short stack's {K-?}{Q-?} when the board ran out ten-high. Minieri collected the pot but was left hanging when he offered a hand shake and his opponent ignored the gesture. Minieri is up to 78,000.

Brunson and Brunson Take On the Same Lady

Doyle Brunson raised form the cutoff and Karen Longfellow called all in for her last 3,500; Todd Brunson also called from the big blind. Most interesting.

Perhaps Brunson Jr was going easy on his dad, or perhaps he just really wanted Longfellow gone -- either way, the two Brunsons checked down the {J-Hearts} {8-Hearts} {7-Diamonds} {K-Clubs} {10-Spades} board and Brunson Jr revealed {Q-Diamonds} {9-Diamonds} for a straight, cruelly outdrawing Longfellow's pocket queens. Brunson Sr mucked, and out went Longfellow.

Min-Shove for Minnulin

Albert Minnulin seems to have had a bit of a disaster -- by the time we found him, he was calling all in under the gun for just 800. Kirill Rabtsov raised and big blind Doyle Brunson called; they checked down the {3-Clubs} {7-Clubs} {J-Diamonds} {5-Spades} {4-Diamonds} board until Brunson bet out on the river. Rabtsov passed, and Minnulin mucked when Brunson turned over {6-Hearts} {8-Spades} for a straight.

Nederland Represent

Veld in da Huis!
Veld in da Huis!
Even though last year's champion Rob Hollink busted out late last night, it's not looking terrible for a second bracelet for the Netherlands. Lex Veldhuis is up to 127,000 -- not quite our chip leader, but firmly up in that happy club of folks over the 100,000 mark. Watch this space...

Meanwhile fellow Dutchie Michiel Brummelhuis, resplendent today in a hoodie emblazoned with lots of little birds in every colour of the rainbow, is doing less well -- he's down to 13,500 and is going to have to pull something impressive out of a hat if he's going to go much further in this.

Let Them Do Their Job

We arrived at the table of Chino Rheem and Hassan Habib to see both players cap the action on the river on a board of {Q-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{J-Hearts}{A-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}. It became obvious that both players most likely held a king to make a straight, but Rheem tabled two of them with his pocket kings as Habib was a little fortunate to collect half with his {K-?}{2-?}.

As the dealer was chopping up the huge pot, Nick Frangos offered some inaudible words of assistance to the dealer who was hastily doing his best to try to gather the chips into two even stacks.

The dealer finally snapped back saying "Every time you guys tell me what to do, it takes longer! Every time! Every time!" Point taken I'd say.
