Gilbert Catches His Ace

An Tran was threatening to run away with the chip lead. After Mike Caro open-raised to 20,000 and Benjamin Gilbert reraised to 57,000, Tran (the chip leader) moved all in from the small blind. That was enough to fold Caro. Gilbert required time for more thought.

After about a minute and thirty seconds, Gilbert called all in for 158,000 total. Tran showed {K-Clubs} {k-Spades} against Gilbert's {A-Clubs} {Q-Spades}, but an ace flopped {A-Spades} {7-Diamonds} {6-Clubs} to give Gilbert a lead he never relinquished.

The double-up pushed Gilbert to about 350,000 in chips and dropped Tran back to 450,000.

Jonathan Tare Eliminated

After the flop of {8-Spades} {5-Clubs} {2-Diamonds}, Jorg Peisert moved all in and sent Jonathan Tare into the tank. Finally though, Tare made the call. Peisert held pocket kings and was ahead of Tare's pocket tens. The turn was the {6-Clubs} and the river the {K-Diamonds}. Peisert had Tare covered and eliminated him on the hand.

Recent Eliminations

James Taylor is out after running his {A-Diamonds} {9-Clubs} into Michael Noda's pocket queens and failing to improve (Jon Van Fleet was briefly caught in the crossfire on the hand, losing 150,000 chips).

Joe McGowan and Isaac Baron are also out. Baron's {A-Diamonds} {K-Diamonds} failed to improve against Eric Lynch's {10-Spades} {10-Diamonds} after all of Baron's chips were in preflop. Lynch is up to 265,000.

Esfandiari Introduces Himself to the Amazon Room

A three-way all-in on Table 60 has resulted in A nice chip-up for Antonio Esfandiari and the elimination of Alexander Jung. Karga Holt started the action by raising to 20,000. Jung was next to act and moved in for 42,000. Action then folded to Esfandiari in the small blind, who re-shipped for 109,000 total. Holt made a reluctant call.

"I think I have the best hand," said Jung as the cards were tabled. He was right.

Holt: {A-Hearts} {6-Hearts}
Jung: {K-Hearts} {K-Diamonds}
Esfandiari: {A-Clubs} {Q-Hearts}

Esfandiari stood on his chair for a flop of {J-Hearts} {9-Hearts} {J-Clubs}. Jung was crestfallen to see the {A-Diamonds} spike on the turn. When then {5-Diamonds} hit the river, Esfandiari raised his arms over his head and let out a primal yell.

Jung was eliminated, while Holt slipped to 107,000. Esfandiari dragged both pots to climb to 260,000.

Setback for Baron

Isaac Baron
Isaac Baron
If we were Isaac Baron, we might be frustrated by now. His stack has hovered around 150,000 chips for most of the day. He had finally managed to climb slightly above that number but is back down to 170,000 after doubling up William Erickson. Erickson was all in preflop with {10-Clubs} {10-Hearts} against Baron's {A-Clubs} {9-Hearts}. For once the ace didn't come, {5-Clubs} {j-Spades} {3-Hearts} {5-Spades} {Q-Diamonds}. That pot pushed Erickson up to 135,000.
