Grantland Hillman open-shipped his last few blinds from the button with , and Greg Pohler called in the big blind with . The board missed both players, and Pohler took it down with ace-high. Hillman hit the rail in 20th place, earning $14,741. That's a big improvement over his one previous WSOP cash for $3,000 in 2008.
In a limped battle of the blinds, Holger Kanisch and John Tolbert saw a flop of .
Tolbert led out for 50,000 and and Kanisch made the call. The turn was the and this time Tolbert fired out 100,000. Again Kanisch made the call as the river was placed on the table.
Tolbert decided to move all in and Kanisch made the call for his tournament life but was forced to muck when Tolbert tabled for the rivered nut straight.
"What a dream river!" exclaimed Tolbert.
"That's bullshit!" replied Kanisch as he mucked and headed to the cashier as Tolbert is now up to 1.26 million in chips.
Eugene Castro moved all in for his last 114,000 from the cutoff position and Holger Kanisch called in the small blind.
Castro:
Kanisch:
Kanisch spiked an ace on the flop and Castro had one foot out the door. However the turn and the river gave him a running two pair to find a remarkable double up. Both players sit with around 250,000 chips.
Joseph Grenon started the day with the chip lead, but things turned south quickly for him. He raised to 40,000 from middle position, and John McNamara made it 110,000 to go from the cutoff. Grenon then four-bet to 240,000. McNamara shipped it in, and Grenon called all in with . McNamara turned over once again. The board didn't change much, and with his better three pair, McNamara busted Grenon and took over the chip lead with 1.58 million.
Grenon, who went deep in a previous no limit event this year and finished 15th in one last year, is stuck with a not-quite-final-table finish again and picks up $14,741 for his sixth WSOP cash.
The roller coaster ride for Denis Murphy continues as he just lost a sizable pot to Thanh dat Tran.
After a raise and a re-raise preflop, the two saw a flop of . Tran led out for 85,000 from the big blind and Murphy made the call. The was checked by both players as the completed the board on the river.
Tran led out with a bet for 155,000 and Murphy looked him up. Tran showed for the straight as Murphy mucked. Tran is at 765,000 with Murphy back to 310,000.
There was already 90,000 in the middle when Eugene Castro bet 48,000 on a board. Frederic Bussot called to see the board pair with the on the turn. Castro checked, and Bussot checked behind. The on the river put three spades out there, and Castro checked. Bussot moved all in, and that was enough to get Castro to fold. Adding the nice pot to his stack, Bussot moved up to 405,000 while Castro slipped to 155,000.
In a preflop raising war James Jeffrey and JD McNamara got all in their chips into the middle. When the cards were flipped it was the classic cooler:
Jeffrey:
McNamara:
The board ran out and an ace on the river was salt into the wound as McNamara doubles through. He's now up to a commanding 856,000 as Jeffrey is down to 410,000 and back in the pack.
Grantland Hillman raised to 40,000 from the cutoff, and Laura Cantero called on the button. Then from the small blind, Greg Pohler jacked it up to 118,000. Hillman quickly folded, but Cantero made the call. The flop came . Pohler open-shipped his big stack in on the flop, and Cantero called all in with . But her top pair was a big underdog to Pohler's . The turn and river took the lone lady out of "lady luck" for this field. Pohler jumped up to 1.175 million, making him the new chip leader.
