Team PokerStars is making a strong showing in this World Championship event. Although a few members of the team (for example, Daniel Negreanu and Jason Mercier) are already out, many others are doing well. George Danzer is up to 68,000. Chad Brown has recovered from some early struggles to climb back above the starting stack. And Alexander Kravchenko is leading the charge for the team.
Kravchenko has roughly 70,000 chips after quartering Sorel Mizzi in a recent pot. On the river of a board that developed , Mizzi checked. Kravchenko bet and was called by a third player and then over-called by Mizzi. Mizzi had the nut low and a pair of queens, . Kravchenko also had the nut low but had a set of jacks to go with it, . That hand got Kravchenko three-quarters of the pot.
Action folded to Steve Wong on the button and he raised. Derek Raymond called out of the big blind and that's all the action we would see on this hand as the board ran out and both players checked the entire way. Raymond tabled the for a pair of queens playing his ace and seven for kickers. Wong mucked and Raymond won the pot. He's back to 16,600 and Wong is on 42,000. "I just can't seem to break the 45,000 barrier," said Wong.
A four-way pot at Jennifer Harman's table has resulted in the elimination of one player and a massive scoop for Harman. The pot was raised pre-flop by Abe Mosseri, then re-raised by the soon-to-be eliminated player, with Harman and Andrew Yeh calling from various spots in between. On a flop of , Yeh and Mosseri checked to Harman. She bet, the pre-flop re-raiser called all in, and then Yeh and Mosseri both called.
The turn put a low on the board. Again Yeh and Mosseri both checked and called a bet from Harman.
All players checked the river. Harman turned up , a set of aces for high and a 7-5 for low. Somehow, that was good for both halves of the main pot and both halves of the side pot. Yeh flashed before mucking.
Peter Gould check-called bets on every street from Phil Galfond as the board ran out . Gould tabled the for aces an nines and Galfond mucked his hand. Gould moved up to 65,000 and Galfond dropped to 22,000.
On the flop of , Nikolay Evdakov bet, Annie Duke raised, Evdakov reraised and then Duke re-reraised. Evdakov made the call before the dealer placed the on the turn, pairing the board. Evdakov checked, Duke bet and Evdakov called.
The river completed the board with the and Evdakov led with a bet. Duke checked her hole cards and then raised. Evdakov called.
Duke tabled the for aces full of eights on the river and Evdakov mucked. He dropped to 9,400 in chips while Duke moved to 32,000.
Richard Ashby won a bracelet tonight -- in the $1,500 Seven-Card Stud event. Now he's in our field. He bought in several levels ago and was blinded down to 25,500 by the time he showed up to play.
Tom Dwan and Scott Clements have both been eliminated. Dwan got into a raising war with Dario Alioto on a flop of and was all in by the turn. At showdown, Alioto turned up , a hand that made the nut low, top two pair, and had straight and flush re-draws.
"That's not good," understated Dwan. His own had no outs to a scoop and only limited outs to half of the pot. He missed all of those outs when the came on the river.
Clements was short-stacked for most of the last level and couldn't beat Andrew Brown's or a third player's on a board of .
Shunjiro Uchida was all in preflop in the small blind while five other players put in multiple bets before the flop came down . The first two players checked and then Phil Ivey checked. Eugene Katchalov was next and bet before Jason Mercier raised. The next player folded, the player after that called and then Ivey called. Katchalov called as well.
The turn brought the and all of the four remaining players checked. The river completed the board with the and action checked to Katchalov. He bet and only Mercier called.
Katchalov tabled the for aces and eights to scoop the side pot as Mercier mucked. Uchida tabled the , but it was no good and he was eliminated from the tournament. Katchalov now has 42,000 chips.
