Send it to Shulman

It was battle of the blinds between the small blind and Barry Shulman. After the button folded, the small blind completed and Shulman raised to 450. The small blind called and we were off to the flop.

The board cam {4-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{A-Diamonds} and the small blind checked and Shulman bet out 200. The small blind again made the call. The {8-Spades} on the turn saw a check from the little blind, and an all in bet of 3,600 from Shulman. The small blind folded and Shulman raked in the pot.

Grizzled

We don't know what happened preflop, but after the flop came {8-Clubs}{6-Spades}{9-Diamonds} Sam Grizzle checked behind his opponent. The {Q-Spades} on the turn saw another check from Grizzle's nemesis and a bet from Grizzle for 175.

A call was made and the {7-Diamonds} was exposed on the river. The early position player bet out 300, and Grizzle raised to 1,175. Grizzle's opponent called and shows {10-Hearts}{2-Spades} for the straight. The ever joking Grizzle later said he didn't even know there could have been a straight.

The Flying Dutchman

Marcel Luske is currently in the field. The well dressed Dutch player boasts over $3,700,000 in live tournament winnings, and has been a World Series of Poker staple with over 20 cashes. His highest coming during the 2003 Main Event where he placed 10th for $373,000.

We recently caught up to him and his table with a {3-Hearts}{3-Spades}{8-Clubs} flop exposed. Luske checked from the big blind and a player in later position bet out 250. Luske made the call and a {A-Hearts} fell on the turn. It was here that both players opted to check.

The {9-Diamonds} on the river awoke the sleeping Dutch giant and Luske bet out 700. After a few moments his opponent folded and Luske raked in the small pot and showed {2-Spades}{3-Diamonds}.

Schneider Sinks, a Little

With {A-Spades}{A-Diamonds}{9-Spades} spread in the middle of the felt we had a battle of the blinds with Tom Schneider in the small blind and an unknown opponent in the large blind. Schneider was first up and made a bet of 100. A call was made and we were off to the turn.

The {8-Diamonds} on fourth-street brought another bet from Schneider, this time for 200. Again a call was made and the {2-Hearts} fell for the river. Schneider lowered his bet and shoved out 100. The big blind made the call and Schneider tabled {9-Hearts}{6-Clubs} for two pair, aces and nines. The big blind countered with {Q-Clubs}{q-Hearts} for two pair aces and queens. Even though Schneider lost the hand he still hovers at 6,200.

The Master

Seven time bracelet winner Men Nguyen has been spotted in the field. Not one of those seven bracelets comes from a no limit hold'em event. Is this the event that brings home the gold for Nguyen?

We recently caught up to Nguyen on a {2-Spades}{j-Spades}{6-Diamonds} board check-raising his opponent all in for 1,825. A call was made, and Nguyen looked to deliver a knock out blow.

Nguyen: {6-Spades}{9-Hearts}
Opponent: {j-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}

Nguyen was going to need some help, as he was well behind to his opponent's pair of jacks. A {3-Diamonds} on the turn, and a {3-Hearts} on the river changed nothing and Nguyen shipped the pot to his opponent.

Neck of the Woods

James Woods
James Woods

During a recent pass of the massive field we noticed acclaimed actor James Woods sitting a few seats away from 2008's Main Event third place finisher Dennis Phillips.

Phillips was actually involved in a pot, but a bet on the river by his opponent in seat 10 caused Phillips to throw away his hand for a minimal loss. After the hand Woods was kind enough to let us know that the player in seat 10 is commonly known throughout the table as "The Assassian".

Bathroom Break

Level 2 : 25/50, 0 ante

The first 20 minute break is upon us, and the tournament directors have had the foresight to give directions to the restrooms. With over 4,000 people here today, and probably not the strongest of bladders there is going to be a rush to the lavatories.

Some players were smart enough to trickle out before the break, but none the less the lines are going to be long.
