Ashby Takes it Easy

No-Limit Hold'em

Richard Ashby raised to 1,500 from the cutoff and Allen Cunningham defended his big blind. The flop came down {8-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} and both players checked.

The turn was the {5-Hearts} and Cunningham fired out 2,500, Ashby called and the {7-Hearts} on the river double paired the board. Cunningham flicked out a 5,000 chip, and after two seconds Ashby called.

"Ace high?" Cunningham asked his opponent who turned over the {7-Clubs} and the {a-Clubs}. Ashby had a full house and took down the pot.

"You Didn't Want a Heart"

Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi
Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi

No-Limit Hold'em

With 18,000 in the pot and a board reading {9-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{A-Hearts}{3-Spades}, Michael "The Grinder Mizrachi, who won this very event in 2010, fired out 8,800 into Lyle Berman, who contemplated the call from the button. After some reflection, he put in the call and the river cards came down the {4-Clubs}.

Mizrachi checked, as did Berman, and the former rolled over {9-Hearts}{6-Hearts} and said, "I gave you a heart draw."

Berman smiled a bit and flashed the {K-Hearts}, adding, "You didn't want a heart." He then sent his hand to the muck and Mizrachi took down the pot.

Grey's Boat Beats Fitoussi's Straight

No Limit Hold'em

The 2007 runner-up from this event, Bruno Fitoussi, just limped under the gun+1, and that was the beginning of a multi-way pot. Richard Ashby called in the hijack, David Grey from the cutoff and both blinds, Allen Cunningham and Barry Greenstein, also stayed in.

The flop came down {J-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{9-Hearts}, and it was checked all the way over to Grey who bet 4,000. Greenstein and Cunningham folded, after which Fitoussi made the call.

The turn brought out the {K-Spades} after Ashby had folded his cards, and the remaining two players checked. On the river the board paired with the {J-Diamonds} and Fitoussi bet 6,500. Grey made the call, and Fitoussi announced he had a straight. The Frenchman turned over {7-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}, which he mucked when Grey tabled {10-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}.

Grey, who started out losing some chips is now back up to 142,000.

One for Deeb

Pot-Limit Omaha

Chris Lee opened for 1,100 from middle position and received a call from Shaun Deeb in the cutoff. Anton Allemann and Anthony Lellouche called from the small and big blinds respectively, and it was four-way action to the {9-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds} flop.

Three checks put action on Deeb, and he took the opportunity to bet 3,500. Both Allemann and Lellouche got out of the way, but Lee opted to see another card. The dealer proceeded to burn and turn the {10-Hearts}, and Lee checked to Deeb, who bet 10,500. This time it proved enough as Lee sent his cards to the muck.

Deeb then showed just the {6-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} before raking in the pot.
