Monnette Eliminated with a Few Choice Words for Chen

Stud-8

Bill Chen{x-}{x-} / {A-Spades}{10-Clubs}{8-Clubs}
John Monnette{x-}{x-} / {3-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}

Bill Chen completed on third and John Monnette raised. Chen made the call. On fourth street, Chen checked and Monnette bet. Chen called. On fifth, things got a little interesting.

Chen checked and Monnette bet. After thinking for a little bit, Chen said, "All right, I'll put you in." There was a question about what that actually meant and the floor was called over. It was ruled that the verbalization from Chen was a raise and he had to raise. Monnette called and was all in.

"I've got nothing," said Chen as he turned over the {Q-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}.

"I know you have nothing, " said Monnette, showing the {3-Spades}{2-Spades} for a pair of threes.

On sixth street, Monnette picked up the {K-Clubs} and Chen the {Q-Hearts}. Chen took the lead with his pair of queens and Monnette was on the ropes.

Both players got seventh street down and Chen asked Monnette if he wanted to show first or not.

"You're first you f***ing idiot," responded Monnette.

Chen then showed the {K-Hearts} and Monnette pulled the {5-Hearts}. Chen's pair of queens were best and he won the pot to eliminate Monnette in 18th place. After the hand, Monnette had a few choice words for Chen.

"You think you're a genius," said Monnette to Chen, "But you're f***ing retarded."

Cards Are Flying!

Luke Schwartz
Luke Schwartz

2-7 Triple Draw

Usually we start off the day, or the level, with a post saying 'the cards are in the air'. This is of course a poker saying, frequently used to point out that play has commenced. Over on Table 449 we just literally saw a card fly as Luke Schwartz didn't catch what he was looking for.

From the cutoff Schwartz raised and Bill Chen was his opponent as he defended his big blind. Both players drew two cards and checked.

On the second draw both players took two cards again, Chen bet and Schwartz raised. Chen made the call and both players took another card. Chen bet.

"Of course you are going to bet," Schwartz sighed as he started squeezing his final card.

With a frightening roar Schwartz found out he had missed his draw and shot the card off the table. It hit the table behind him, and that's when Michael Mizrachi came checking up on the action.

"You know you can't bluff after you do that, right?" Mizrachi said with a smile after Schwartz took his loss.

"It was fifty-fifty," Schwartz said stating that he was in good shape to catch what he needed.

We Are in the Money; Ben Yu Bubbles

Stud-8

We have just lost Ben Yu in 17th place, and that means the remaining 16 players are now in the money. Roland Israelashvili put an end to bubble play as he managed to scoop Yu for his tournament life.

Ben Yu{A-Spades}{4-Spades} / {8-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{3-Clubs} / {3-Spades}
Roland Israelashvili{6-Diamonds}{2-Spades} / {5-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{5-Hearts} / {3-Diamonds}

Israelashvili brought it in after which Yu moved all in for his final 19,000 chips. Israelashvili tanked for about 30 seconds and made the call. The board ran out giving Yu two pair and an eight-four low, but on seventh street Israelashvili made both a seven-high straight to go with his made seven-six low. Israelashvili also improved his low to a six-five and he knocked out Yu.

We are now on a 20-minute break.

Don't Call It a Comeback

Level 17
Brett Richey
Brett Richey

On Day 3, Brett Richey was knocked down to just 4,000 in chips, which was less than all big blinds and big betting limits at the time. After going on break, he fought back over time and found himself able to climb back over 200,00 in chips.

He first hit a full house in a Seven Card Stud pot against Patrik Antonius and David Oppenheim before doubling up the next hand with an ace-high flush versus David Chiu, who started the hand with split queens. He then doubled up to over 200,000 in a Pot-Limit Omaha hand against Michael "The Grinder" Mizrachi.

Going into the money, Richey is the shortest stack with 190,000 in chips. He's cashed in this event before, placing 13th in 2010 for $113,030. He's locked up himself another $91,549 and will be looking to run it up in order to make the final table.
