Hellmuth Eliminated

A player in middle position opened to 2,500 and was called by Phil Hellmuth in the cutoff. Action folded around to the player in the big blind, who squeezed to 7,000 and change. The original raiser folded but Hellmuth quickly tossed in a call.

The flop came {J-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{9-Diamonds} and Hellmuth's opponent led out. He was quickly called by Hellmuth and the turn brought the {K-Diamonds}. This time, Hellmuth's opponent checked, prompting an all-in shove from Hellmuth for his last several thousand. His opponent called and hands were revealed.

Hellmuth: {K-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}
Opponent: {A-Hearts}{Q-Spades}

The river?

{A-Spades} - giving Hellmuth's opponent a winning ace on the river and knocking Hellmuth out of the tournament.

A steaming Hellmuth shot up from his seat and made a hasty exit from the Amazon Room.

Stein Crippled By Runner-Runner Flush; Eliminated a Few Hands Later

Sam Stein
Sam Stein

We're not quite sure of the betting action, but we do know that Sam Stein and Artem Kobylynskyi created a monster 150,000 pot by getting all the chips in preflop.

Showdown
Stein: {6-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}
Kobylynskyi: {A-Hearts}{K-Clubs}

Apparently Stein tanked for a long time and called after Kobylynskyi offered, "I'll show you." Whatever the case, it was a big flip for a lot of chips. It looked like the call would pay off for Stein as the flop fell {6-Spades}{9-Clubs}{5-Clubs} to give him a set, but the {7-Clubs} turn did give Kobylynskyi a flush draw. Wouldn't you know it, the {4-Clubs} spiked on the river to complete the draw and devastate Stein, who would be eliminated a few hands later.

Gavin Doubles

Gavin Smith doubles
Gavin Smith doubles

We caught Gavin Smith moving all in on a {3-Spades}{10-Hearts}{8-Spades} flop holding {a-Spades}{7-Spades} and coming up against the {9-Diamonds}{7-Clubs} of an opponent. The player in question had led out with a small bet, and Smith shoved over the top for around 26,000. The player called and Smith was at risk.

The {4-Spades} on the turn was exactly what Smith was looking for and with a brick on the river, Smith took down the double up to sit with a much healthier stack.

Chidwick Can't Catch a Diamond

With around 28,000 in the pot and a board reading {5-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{Q-Spades}{2-Diamonds}, Stephen Chidwick and Ranj Sheena created a monster pot that resulted in the latter being all in for right around 60,000.

Showdown
Sheena: {A-Spades}{Q-Hearts}
Chidwick: {7-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}

Sheena was ahead with deuces and queens, but needed to dodge a diamond on the river to stay alive. That's exactly what he did as the {J-Hearts} blanked on the river.
