Event #15: $1,500 H.O.R.S.E.

Day 1 Completed

Seaman Leads After Day 1, Chiu Trails Closely

Level 10
Jon Seaman has the biggest chip stack heading into Day 2.
Jon Seaman has the biggest chip stack heading into Day 2.

Players have filed out of the Brasilia Room here at the Rio, and stacks have been bagged and tagged. Leading the 177 remaining players is Jon Seaman from Texas, Ariz. Seaman tallied 62,600, and he leads by just 400 over four-time bracelet winner David Chiu. Seaman's biggest career cash is for $10,080 when he won a 2-7 No Limit Triple Draw tournament at the L.A. Poker Classic.

Chiu has claimed two Limit Hold'em bracelets and one bracelet each in Stud and Omaha Hi/Lo, so adding a H.O.R.S.E. bracelet would be a fitting addition to his collection. He also finished second in this very event a year ago for $164,690.

Other notable stacks bagged include Jesse Sylvia (51,200), Andy Bloch (47,900), Jonathan Aguiar (39,000), Matt Waxman (38,100), David Bach (27,700) and Dan Kelly (23,200).

Play resumes at 1 p.m. tomorrow in the Amazon Room, and we'll be back on the scene to bring you all the pertinent updates.

"No One Runs Better Than Jesse"

Level 10
Jesse Sylvia
Jesse Sylvia

Stud

After a player completed to 800 showing {k-Spades}, Jess Sylvia called showing {j-Hearts}. On 4th street, Sylvia raised his opponent's lead-out bet, and his opponent called. Sylvia bet on 5th street, and his opponent called. On sixth street, the opposite occurred, though, as Sylvia's opponent paired up and led out.

At the end of the hand Sylvia showed {j-Clubs}{k-Clubs}{j-Clubs}/{j-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{9-Hearts} for a full house, and his opponent mucked his down cards with {k-Spades}{4-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{6-Hearts} on his board. He definitely had a look of frustration as he mucked, indicating he also held a strong hand.

In the middle of hand, another player at the table who called himself "Snake" declared that "No one runs better than Jesse." He definitely held the cards he needed in this hand, and he now has a stack of 40,000 in front of him.

Plenty of Extras Being Given Away at This Year's WSOP

Level 10

The buzz inside the walls of the Rio extends beyond just the tournaments on the 2013 World Series of Poker schedule. Online poker in Nevada is a very, very hot topic right now, and WSOP.com is making a lot of noise.

While the site has yet to launch, you can head to the Lambada Room of the Rio or look for one of the beautiful and friendly WSOP.com ladies walking the hallways to sign up for a free, personal WSOP.com online poker account. This is a great way to get a jump on the site's registration, and plenty of people have already taken this opportunity.

What's more is that the WSOP will be hosting daily raffles for everyone that has taken the time to register for WSOP.com at the Rio. What can you win? Plenty of fantastic prizes including 36 WSOP seats!

Players 21 years of age and older who sign up for a WSOP.com account will automatically be entered into the “36-Seat Giveaway” where a randomly-selected winner will win a seat into the next day’s first WSOP gold bracelet event. One of the events eligible in this promotion is the $111,111 One Drop High Roller No-Limit Hold’em tournament that is expected to feature a $10,000,000 prize pool and allow you to play poker with the biggest names in the game. In total, $182,333 in WSOP seats, including a seat to the WSOP Main Event, are being given away during this one-of-a-kind WSOP.com promotion.

In addition to the 36-Seat Giveaway, a “Hot Seat” promotion will allow any player who signs up for a WSOP.com online account and wears their WSOP.com patch on their chest at the table while playing an event to be randomly selected to receive 500 bonus dollars deposited directly into their WSOP.com online account once the site has received all regulatory approvals and launches.

With 62 WSOP gold bracelet events and three winners promised for the Main Event, this promotion includes $32,000 worth of value to those participating.

Wheel for Shulman

Level 10

On the river, Jeff Shulman was involved in a pot with two players, one of whom was all-in. Shulman showed {5-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{6-Spades}{a-Clubs}, the all-in player showed {9-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{k-Hearts}, and the third player showed {3-Spades}{10-Spades}{7-Clubs}{j-Clubs}. Shulman bet, and his opponent called. Shulman showed {7-Spades}{2-Spades}{3-Diamonds}/{5-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{6-Spades}{a-Clubs}for a wheel, and the opponent with chips behind mucked. Shulman scooped the side pot, but the all-in player showed {8-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{8-Spades}/{9-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{k-Hearts} for a 10-high straight. Shulman won the low with his 5-high, but his opponent's better straight won the high.
