Two for Matros

Level 7 : 500/1,000, 0 ante

We came to the table on the flop, as Matt Matros and Daniel Negreanu saw a flop of {8-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}. Negreanu check-called Matros's bet, and did so again on the {3-Clubs} turn. The river was the {10-Clubs}, and Matros bet again. This time Negreanu folded, leaving himself with only 7,400 in chips.

On the very next hand, Matros raised preflop, and Joe Cassidy re-raised. Matros called, and the flop came {7-Diamonds}{a-Spades}{8-Diamonds}. Matros checked, Cassidy bet, and then Matros check-raised. Cassidy folded, and Matros took the pot.

After the hands, he sits with 17,000 in chips.

Eight-High Good for Negreanu

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 0 ante
Daniel Negreanu
Daniel Negreanu

Danny Qutami raised preflop, Daniel Negreanu called from the small blind and J.J. Liu called from the big blind. The flop was {a-Spades}{10-Spades}{3-Diamonds}. Negreanu and Liu both checked, and Qutami bet. Negreanu then raised. Liu folded, and Qutami called the raise. The turn was the {k-Clubs}, and both players checked. They checked again on the {q-Clubs} river, and Negreanu announced, "Eight High." He turned over {8-Spades}{7-Spades} for a missed flush draw. Qutami then tabled {6-Spades}{x-Spades} for a six-high flush draw, and Negreanu won the pot with his eight.

Mueller Primed to Bag Chip Lead

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 0 ante

With just 30 minute left in the night, Greg "FBT" Mueller is more than likely going to finish as the chip leader. After eliminating yet another player, the two-time bracelet winner is sitting with a little over 90,000 in chips! That's almost double many of the other big stacks.

On a separate note, Josh Arieh and Andy Bloch won't be bagging up any chips tonight as they've both hit the rail here in the last

Ivey v. Chiu in the Blinds

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 0 ante

Phil Ivey was in the small blind, and everyone folded around to him. He raised, and David Chiu called in the big blind. The flop was {q-Hearts}{9-Spades}{k-Diamonds}, and Ivey bet. Chiu called, and the dealer turned the {j-Hearts}. Ivey bet again, and Chiu called again. The river was the {10-Hearts}, putting a straight on the board, as well as three hearts. Ivey bet again, and Chiu chuckled a bit to himself before acting. After a few moments, he folded, exposing a {10-Spades} as he did so to show he had a straight before the river that he felt was no longer good.

The tournament staff has just announced that the remaining players will play three more hands before bagging and tagging for the night. We're headed out to the floor to catch any last-minute action and to compile some end-of-the-night chip counts. Stay tuned for those and a full recap of the Day 1 action.
