Jacks Work for Danzer

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 0 ante

Omaha-8

George Danzer finished runner-up in this event last year, and he made Day 2 this year with an average stack. However, he has just won a pot in O-8 to get his stack up close to 30,000.

We saw that Danzer and his opponent had two bets in front of them going to the flop, which came down {3-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{q-Spades}. Danzer check raised his opponent, and he was called. Danzer checked again when the {q-Diamonds} hit the turn, and Danzer's opponent fired out again. Danzer just called this time, and both players checked when the {5-Diamonds} hit the river. Danzer showed {k-Clubs}{j-Hearts}{7-Spades}{j-Clubs} for two pair, and his opponent could only muster up the {10-Clubs} for a lesser two pair, giving the pot to the German pro.

After that hand, Danzer is now up to 27,000.

Jacks Work for Danzer

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 0 ante

Last year's runner up in this event, team PokerStars pro George Dazner, made day two with an average stack, and has since padded it to almost 30,000. In the latest hand, we saw that Danzer and his lone opponent had two bets in front of them going to the flop. That came down {3-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{q-Spades}, and Danzer elected to check raise after his opponent bet. He was called, and the {q-Diamonds}, and Danzer checked again. His opponent fired out, and Danzer just called this time. When the {5-Diamonds} hit the river, both players checked, and Danzer showed {k-Clubs}{j-Hearts}{7-Spades}{j-Clubs} for queens and jacks. His opponent could only muster up the {10-Clubs} for a lesser two pair, and Danzer won the pot to get up to 27,000.

Bakes Scores a Knockout

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 0 ante

Omaha-8

David "Bakes" Baker was part of a three way pot where one player was all in preflop. The flop came down {j-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}, and Baker fired out a bet. He was raised, and Baker called to see fourth street. That card was the {6-Spades}, and undettered by the raise on the flop, Baker fired out again. This time his opponent just called, and the same happened when the {k-Clubs} hit the river.

Baker tabled {a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}{k-Spades}{10-Spades} for a world of draws that ended up as the nut straight on the river, and both his opponents mucked. After that hand, Baker is now up to 21,300.

Harman Gets Chips Early

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 0 ante

Stud- 8

Opponent 1: {x-}{x-} / {6-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} / {x-}
Harman: {x-}{x-} / {3-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{7-Spades}{8-Hearts} / {x-}
Opponent 2: {x-}{x-} / {5-Spades}{9-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{10-Spades} / {x-}

Jennifer Harman opened up the action on third street, and she got two callers. Opponent 1 was all in on third street, and both Harmen and her other opponent checked fourth. From there, Harman bet on fifth, sixth, and seventh, and she was called each time. Harman revealed {a-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{7-Hearts} in the hole for two pair and an eight low, and that was good enough to scoop the whole pot, upping her stack to one of the big ones at 31,500 in the process.

Elezra Runs Into Quads

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 0 ante

Stud- 8

Elezra: {x-}{x-} / {10-Hearts}{k-Hearts}{k-Spades}{2-Spades} / {x-}{x-}
Opponent: {x-}{x-} / {6-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{8-Spades} / {x-}

We caught up with the action on fifth street, as we saw Elezra bet. He was called, and he fired out again on sixth street. His opponent decided to put in a raise this time, and Elezra quickly called. Elezra called another bet on seventh, and his opponent announced "four eights", and tabled {8-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}. Elezra quickly folded his hand, knocking him down to 30,000 in the process.

Ashton Leads the Way: Elezra and Matusow Lurking

Matthew Ashton
Matthew Ashton

Yesterday, we played eight levels of Omaha and Stud Eight-or-Better. After a night full of splits, quarters, and scoops, Matthew Ashton led the way, bagging up 57,800. He’s followed by a bracelet winner, Allyn Jaffrey Shulman, who will bring 51,500 into today.

Everywhere you look in this field, you will find notables, because they love to come out for the Mixed Game tournaments. Left in the field are a slew of bracelet winners, including Eli Elezra (38,700), Men “The Master” Nguyen (35,200), Mike Matusow (29,200), Scott Clements (25,900), Adam Friedman (22,200), Todd Brunson (20,900), Robert Mizrachi (20,700), and Daniel Negreanu (12,700), just to name a few.

Some of the non-bracelet winner notables who will also be returning today are Allen Kessler (28,500), Matt Glantz (27,600), Jeremy Ausmus (26,500), Maria Ho (17,200), and Chad Brown (8,700).

Play will get underway in less than an hour, and we will play a full ten levels today. We will hit the money at some point today, and while the goal is to get to the final table, that will be unlikely. Of course, Pokernews will be here all day giving you the live updates, so you don’t want to go anywhere!
