The following players were eliminated late in level 16 and will each receive $6,743.

Lapossie Pressure

Level 16 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

Matthew Lapossie has been very active these last two levels, almost every time we pass his table he is involved in a big pot with a mound of chips in the middle and betting on every street. In a hand we just caught on the turn Lapossie was in position and had bet 30,000 on a board reading {j-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}. His opponent called and the river card brought the {3-Diamonds}.

Lapossie’s opponent now led out for 80,000 with less than 40,000 behind. Lapossie gave a puzzled look and moved all in. His opponent quicky and sheepishly threw his hand away.

Dempsey Catches a Lucky Break

Level 16 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante
James Dempsey
James Dempsey

James Dempsey seemed out of luck and had one foot out of the door a few minutes ago, but now he's got a little more breathing room after catching a lucky break to bust a player and boost his stack to 80,000.

Dempsey committed his stack from the cutoff with what turned out to be {7-Spades}{6-Spades} and the cutoff instantly called with {A-Diamonds}{9-Spades}. Dempsey slipped further behind on the {2-Spades}{A-Hearts}{K-Spades} flop, then was propelled into the lead when he completed his flush on the {10-Spades} turn. The {3-Clubs} was the river card and Dempsey received a boost to 80,000 while his opponent got an extended dinner break.

Steven is Dispatched

Level 16 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

Brandon Steven had been nursing a short stack for quite some time and got his last 17,400 in the middle and Erik Cajelais made the call.

Cajelais: {7-Hearts}{7-Spades}

Steven: {j-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}

Steven could not find any help as the board ran out {a-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{q-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{6-Hearts} and he headed to the payout desk.

Chip Counts of the Rich and Famous

Level 16 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

Places 82-90

Level 15 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante

The following players were recently eliminated and will each receive $6,066

Counting Chips

Level 16 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

Boatman Sails on Out

Level 16 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

Barny Boatman raised all in for his last 38,700 and Andrew Becker made the call from the big blind.

Boatman: {9-Spades}{9-Hearts}

Becker: {a-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}

The {4-Spades}{10-Spades}{3-Hearts} flop stayed clean for Boatman, but the {j-Spades} turn paired Becker and the {q-Diamonds} river sealed it and Boatman hit the rail.

Sunny Is Definitely Shining

Level 16 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

Sunny Chattha is up among the leaders thanks to his 269,000 chips. Chattha told us that he won a huge flip against the now busted Joe Kuether ({A-}{K-} vs {Q-}{Q-}) and as a result is well poised for a very deep run in this event.

Metaal Doubles

Level 16 : 1,500/3,000, 500 ante

Dan O'Brien bet enough on the turn to put Govert Metaal all in with the cards reading {7-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}{5-Spades}.
Metaal looked at the board, shrugged and called.

O’Brien was on a bluff with {k-}{q-} and couldn’t get a fold from Metaal who had {6-Hearts}{6-Clubs}. The river {3-Hearts} saw Metaal double up.
