Drinan Unlucky on River

Level 3 : 150/300, 0 ante

On a board of {10-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}{2-Clubs}, Connor Drinan checked and called a bet of 4,500, a little under the size of the pot. Both players checked the {4-Spades} river and Drinan opened {a-}{k-}{j-}{9-} for a missed wrap. His opponent had an airball too when the money went in but binked a pair with {j-}{7-}{5-}{4-}.

Klein Bluffs Small

Level 3 : 150/300, 0 ante
Loren Klein, pictured in an earlier event.
Loren Klein, pictured in an earlier event.

On a completed board of {4-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{7-Spades}{8-Hearts}{5-Hearts}, Loren Klein bet 4,000 into a pot of about 12,000 after some thought. His opponent tanked awhile and then tossed in a call, at which point Klein simply mucked his hand.

Klein may not be the most familiar name to many poker fans, but he has been one of, if not the most, successful players in PLO events here at the Rio in recent years. In 2016, he won the $1,500 Mixed No-Limit Hold'em/Pot-Limit Omaha event for $241,427 and narrowly missed a second bracelet when he came runner-up in this very event for $552,713. Last year, he won the $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha for $231,483.

We'll see if he can keep the incredible success going here in 2018.

Aalbik Nearing 150K

Level 4 : 200/400, 0 ante

A player in the small blind made it 12,500 to go on a {4-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{8-Spades} flop and Cary Katz called from middle position. Davis Aalvik slid in 30,325 in the cutoff and the small blind jammed to put everyone all in. Katz folded and Aalvik called for about 25,000 more.

Davis Aalvik: {q-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{7-Spades}
Opponent: {a-Hearts}{a-Spades}{9-Spades}{9-Clubs}

A set was good for Aalvik and the {6-Hearts} turn, and the {5-Clubs} river turned his hand into a winning straight.

Coleman Finds a Way to Win Showdown

Level 4 : 200/400, 0 ante

From middle position, Cary Katz opened for 1,000 and got a caller before Maxx Coleman made it 4,600 on the button. Katz called as did the third player and it went three ways to {9-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}, which checked around. The {7-Spades} turn saw two checks and a bet of 2,500 from Coleman. Katz called and the third player folded.

On the {q-Spades} river, Katz checked and Coleman made a defeated-looking check back. Katz announced a queen though, so Coleman showed {k-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{5-Spades} to take it down.

Kamhazi Busts Bowker in Huge Pot

Level 4 : 200/400, 0 ante

Three players put in 12,600 preflop, with Kyle Bowker looking to have put in the final raise from the cutoff. On the {4-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} flop, Bowker potted for 38,400. Cary Katz folded but Jonathan Kamhazi shoved all in to put Bowker at risk for about 20,000 more.

Jonathan Kamhazi: {7-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{3-Spades}{3-Hearts}
Kyle Bowker: {a-Spades}{a-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{q-Clubs}

Bowker had flopped the wheel but was fading a higher straight draw and a set. There was no waiting as the {2-Hearts} arrived right away. The river was the {8-Spades} and stacks were counted down, with Bowker being covered by about 7,000.

At the same table, Kahle Burns appears to have gone bust as he's getting a massage with no chips in front of him.
