Steffen Sontheimer (as seen in a previous event)

Steffen "Goose" Sontheimer is off to a great start to the 2018 Main Event, having already increased his stack to 85,000 through the first 30 minutes of play.

Sontheimer was recently seen squeezing to 2,000 over a raise from middle position and a call from a player in the cutoff. Sontheimer received a cold-call from the big blind and the other two players released their hands.

The {10-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts} flop was quickly checked by both players and the {8-Spades} landed on the turn. Sontheimer fired 5,000 in position and his opponent folded.

Mateos Grabs Some Chips

Level 1 : 75/150, 0 ante

Adrian Mateos opened to 350 and it was called by Ayaz Mahmood one seat over and the big blind player.

The flop came {3-Spades}{8-Hearts}{2-Hearts} and the big blind player checked. Mateos continued for 500 and faced a raised to 1,200 from Mahmood. It folded to Mateos who made the call. The turn brought them a {3-Hearts} and they both checked.

On the river {q-Hearts}, Mateos fired 3,000 and it was enough to win the pot without more resistance.

Shakerchi Starting to Build Early

Level 1 : 75/150, 0 ante

The board read {7-Hearts}{j-Clubs}{5-Spades}, Talal Shakerchi checked to the hijack who bet 550 and Shakerchi made the call. The turn fell the {8-Hearts} and both players checked.

The {10-Hearts} hit the felt on the river, Shakerchi threw out a bet of 1,350 and his opponent thought for a moment but made the call. Shakerchi turned over {7-Clubs}{8-Spades} for two pair and his opponent mucked his hand.

Chen Picks Off a Bluffer

Level 1 : 75/150, 0 ante

On a completed board of {4-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{5-Spades}{7-Diamonds}, with about 6,000 in the pot, the big blind bet 4,000 into two opponents. James Chen called in the cutoff and action was on the button. The player sitting there mucked, and the big blind followed suit, so Chen didn't even have to show his cards to take in the hefty early pot.
