A nearby 7.1 magnitude earthquake was felt in the Rio, creating somewhat of a panic in the halls of the convention center. Officials have decided to send the players on dinner break early as a safety precaution.

Play resumes at 10 p.m.

Highlights from the first part of Level 4 included:

Whitt Outwits Five Opponents

Level 4 : 300/500, 500 ante

Alexander Whitt arrived at the river with five players left to act behind him, on a board of {2-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}. The button, both blinds, and the two earliest positions were still in play, forming a string of six adjacent players.

The action had checked to Whitt, who bet out for 12,700. The cutoff called, as well as the small blind.

The big blind, under-the-gun and under-the-gun-plus-one players are successively tank folded. Only Whitt ended up turning over his hand, which was the winner with {a-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} for the nut flush.

Liberta Trips Up Brinn

Level 4 : 300/500, 500 ante

Cody Brinn raised to 1,200 from under the gun and was called by four players, including Joseph Liberta in middle position.

The flop was {k-Spades}{j-Spades}{9-Clubs}, Brinn continued for 2,300 and only Liberta called.

The turn was the {3-Diamonds}, Brinn bet 6,300 and Liberta called.

The river was the {9-Hearts}, Brinn checked, Liberta bet 15,000 and Brinn called after a few moments.

Liberta tabled {q-Spades}{9-Spades} for trip nines, Brinn mucked and Liberta won the pot.

Newhouse Eliminated

Level 4 : 300/500, 500 ante

Mark Newhouse's quest to make three WSOP Main Event final tables has come to an end for this year after he was recently eliminated.

Following a raise, Newhouse moved all in for roughly 17,000 holding {a-}{q-} and was called by the original raiser with {k-}{k-}.

The board blanked out for Newhouse, and he was eliminated.

Kempe Eliminated by Barbieri

Level 4 : 300/500, 500 ante

Rainer Kempe raised all in for 900 (we were informed he lost much of his stack with ace-queen against kings on a queen-high board) from under the gun and Al Barbieri isolated the pot with a reraise to 2,500.

Kempe: {a-Spades}{6-Clubs}
Barbieri: {q-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}

The board came down {k-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{4-Spades}, ending Kempe's Main Event.

Finger and Michaelis in a Tangle

Level 4 : 300/500, 500 ante

The two German pros were on the turn with {5-Hearts}{q-Clubs}{a-Clubs}{8-Diamonds} down. Martin Finger checked to Paul Michaelis who took his time before betting 12,500 into a 27,000 pot. Finger needed less time to think and folded. Despite that hand, Finger is faring better than his compatriot.

Cynn Bets the Turn and Wins

Level 4 : 300/500, 500 ante

2018 WSOP Main Event champion John Cynn opened to 1,200 in middle position and the big blind called.

Both players checked the {9-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{3-Spades} flop to reveal the {9-Diamonds} on the turn.

The big blind checked, and Cynn tossed in 1,000 and his opponent folded.

Guan Fills Up on Kitai

Level 4 : 300/500, 500 ante

Picking up the action on the turn with the board reading {j-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}, Ricky Guan checked to Davidi Kitai who bet 6,600 into a pot of around 10,000. Guan just called and the {8-Diamonds} paired the board on the river.

Guan checked again, hoping to induce a bet but Kitai sniffed it out and checked it back. Guan flipped over {9-Spades}{9-Hearts} for a full house and Kitai sent his cards to the muck.
